Not sure what to say?

I'm having a really hard time wrapping my head around this and I'm still somewhat in denial. I've known you for about 40 years. We met at Bally's Jack LaLanne where you worked as a "enforcer" back in Brooklyn, NY. You slapped me in the stomach while I was doing some sets on the peck deck and said "No shirts cut off by the midriff." I think you were jealous because I had a 6 pack and you had a beer belly LOL! For some strange reason I knew you were not only going to be difficult, but...

I was shocked to hear this news. Joe, you were just the biggest hearted man and the best artisit ever. Your compassion you showed for anything you were involved with goes on with your legacy. I pray for your family and hope they all have a cup of turkish coffee in your honor.

I cannot believe you are gone. Rest in peace to this gentle giant sweetheart of a man I was lucky enough to call a friend. I'm so sorry to his family for your great loss.

Great man, we hadn’t spoken in years but lots of memories and stories to be told. My condolences to his family.

A great man. He will be missed and remembered .RIP my friend, may I see you again some day.

My condolences to the family. Your sense of humor and passion for art that you shared with all of us on social media will be missed. I enjoyed working with you in corrections and admired your empathy for those in your charge. Go rest easy Joe as your time on this earth is done.

Obituary

Joseph's Obituary

Joseph Georges Aoun, 61, of Whitehall, NY, gained his wings on January 9, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

Joseph was born on December 15, 1963, in Lebanon to Georges Aoun and Hanna Emad. He spent his childhood between the south of Lebanon, where Jesus once walked, and the bustling city of Beirut. As a pre-adolescent Christian militant, he courageously defended his community during turbulent times. Despite these challenges, he pursued his education and earned a bachelor’s degree in Electricity and Telecommunications from Institut Technique Des Peres Capucins.

Joseph had many passions that defined his vibrant personality. A self-taught artist, he enjoyed drawing portraits with remarkable skill. His hobbies ranged from cooking, being stubborn, collecting weapons to indulge in history, and cheering for the Raiders. Known for his “violent generosity” and sharp sense of humor, Joseph touched the lives of everyone he met, often leaving an unforgettable impression. Those who knew this gentle giant could always find the joyful gleam in his eye and the upturned corners of his mouth that he tried to hide behind his serious scowl.

Joseph dedicated over 25 years to his work as a corrections officer, earning numerous medals for life preservation and recognition for his humane approach to the inmates under his care. His unique balance of strict discipline and concerned empathy exemplified his deep belief in the dignity of every human being. Those appointed over him lacked appreciation for his gruff compassion.

Jospeh was predeceased in death by his late wife, Aziza Aoun.

He is survived by his daughter, Maureen Joseph Aoun; his son-in-law, Nour Joseph Saade; and his beloved grandson, James Joseph Saade.

A celebration of Joseph’s life will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 62 Warren Street, Glens Falls, NY 1201.

Joseph will be remembered as a man of resilience, passion, and love—a protector, an artist, and a

storyteller. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Condolences and floral arrangements may be sent directly to Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804, or through www.bakerfuneralhome.com.
