Chicopee-Born in Asamankese, Ghana, to J.C. Asante, a high-ranking police officer, and Ama Nyame, a businesswoman, he inherited a spirit of discipline and ambition that would carry him across three continents.
After serving in the Ghanaian army, his journey led him to Germany, where he fulfilled his dream of becoming an engine technician. It was there he met his beloved wife, and together they moved to her homeland, Sweden, where he became a proud father to his only child. Even then, his hands were busy building a future, working for the car manufacturer SAAB.
In 1976, driven by a vision of a better life for his family, he migrated to the United States. He began by mastering the vast interstate roads as a truck driver, eventually owning his own rig and proving himself a masterful diesel mechanic. His expertise ultimately led him to serve as a Diesel Engineer for major establishments across New England.
For many years, Chicopee, Massachusetts, was his chosen home. It was here that he found community, here that he worked, and here that he lived out his final days.
At 75, we celebrate a man who was a global citizen but a family man at heart. From the vibrant streets of Ghana to the roads of America, he moved through the world with purpose. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, technical brilliance, and a deep devotion to those he loved. His legacy now lives on through his son, Kent, and his two grandchildren, Hanna and Elias.
May he rest in eternal peace, his journey complete and his labor done.
