         OBITUARY

Joseph M. “Butch” Billups, Jr. was born on November 8, 1954, in Lafayette, Louisiana, to Joseph Billups, Sr. and Pearlie Mae Savoie Billups. After the family moved to Texas, Butch attended and graduated from Beaumont ISD. He joined the United States Army in 1973 and was honorably discharged and came back to Beaumont.

He was raised in a home filled with love alongside his siblings, Charles, Beverly, Erma, Janice, Linda, Etta, Gerald, and Deborah. The family worshipped at St. Pius X Catholic Church.

Butch loved auto mechanics and would work on any make or model car. When he was not working on a car, you would find him cooking! His specialty was gumbo (also called “jumbo soup” by his grands), and it was often requested by many. He drank coffee all day, would talk to anyone (he never met a stranger), and he usually had a solution for everything!

In 1996, Butch married Cathey Scott Spencer and they shared their families and faith. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his sister, Linda Billups and two brothers, Charles “Black” Savoie and Gerald “Doc” Billups.

Butch’s memory will live in the hearts of his wife of 29 years, Cathey Billups; his sisters, Beverly Reese, Erma Billups, Janice Billups, Etta Billups and Deborah Wilson (Reginald); his children, Kim Trenou, Erica Baice; bonus children, Marcus Spencer, Candace Spencer, Courtney Campbell, Tiffany Spencer, and Micah Spencer (Tellaneshia); 19 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, his family-in-love and many friends.
