East Providence – Joseph G. Castro, Sr., 94, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Carla I. (Antola) Castro for 36 years. Born in Seekonk, he was a son of the late Anthony and Josephine (Rose) Castro. Joseph was a U.S.M.C veteran of World War II, where he served in the Pacific Theater, seeing action at Kwajalein Atoll; Saipan; Tinian and Iwo Jima. He later worked for many years as a baker at the former Dinny Moore’s Diner and most recently as a State Health Inspector. Joseph enjoyed gardening and spending time in his yard. Besides his loving wife, he leaves his son, Joseph G. Castro, Jr. and his wife, Beverly, of North Providence; a step-daughter, Mary Jane Dion and her husband, Wilfred, of Pawtucket; five grandchildren, Joseph G. Castro, III, Jessica H. Shaw, Christopher, Michael and Nichole Dion; two great-grandchildren, Aiden Shaw and Henry Castro and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Anna Oliveira, Josephine Metevier and George Castro. VISITATION will begin on Monday at 9:30 a.m. at WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 118 Taunton Ave., East Providence. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Mt. St. Mary Cemetery. Flowers are respectfully omitted.
