Not sure what to say?

The memory of the vegetable and fruit truck pulling infront of our house at Lake Sunapee is one one of the fondest childhood memories of summer at Soonipi. My father, Don, so admired the hard work, dedication and wonderful produce of the Digilio family.
Rest peacefully Joe. Your memory will be with me and my family forever. It truly brings a smile.

Beverly and family, what a wonderful long life you have had together. May all those memories sustain you. With love and. Sympathy, Barbara Maki

Our condolences to Beverley, Brenda, Joey, Joe's family & many friends. Tracey and I have many fond memories of Joe & his family coming into the MacKenna's Restaurant over the years.

There are no words to help ease the pain of losing a loved one. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Please know that Mr. Digilio is at peace and he will watch over and guide each of you.
Knowing him as a lifelong friend will be sorely missed. I will forever cherish all the memories as a kid of helping Brenda with selling the vegetables, picking some, and bringing some home, along with all the corn rides to feed the cows and picking up hay bales when ready. He always let us play...

My Condolences to the DiGilio Family from the Cricenti Family. We both had similar Roots! I was shocked to hear the sad news of his passing by my Friend William Crowder Jr in Florida. It sounds like he grew some delicious vegetables! Especially the Tomatos and Sweet Corn ! Although I never got to have any of Joe's Vegetables, they sound delicious, and I wish I had. Those are my Favorites!

Friends and neighbors for six generations and counting. Remembering Joe and all the good times our families have shared.

As a child, we often had Digilio's corn. I always thought that was what you called corn that wasn't canned. Fresh corn was just Digilio's Corn. We did not have a real relationship with the family, but as soon as I saw the obituary, it brought back fond memories of the delicious garden goodies that we enjoyed for many years. Thanks for sharing your family garden with the community.

Sending my deepest condolences to Mrs. Digilio, Joey and Brenda. Mr. Digilio was a wonderful, kind, funny man. He used to give me (and my bicycle) a ride from the town dock back to Rollins Road. I was always grateful for this as it cut a couple of miles off my ride home. Praying that your memories will help ease your pain during this difficult time.

I am so very sorry to hear of Mr. Digilios passing. I will remember him with fondness for his tenacity and determination to work his land. As I passed by the hill, I could always count on seeing him out by the garden or walking the property. And he would offer a friendly wave.. prayers for all

Joseph's Obituary

Joseph A. Digilio died peacefully in his beloved home on April 9 th , 2024 in Newbury, NH at the age of 97. Joe was born on June 12, 1926 in New London Hospital to Dominic and Joan Digilio. His roots are deeply embedded in Baker Hill, growing up on a farm with four brothers and a sister, and parents. Joe learned the value of hardwork and family. The family worked together to grow vegetables, tend to chickens, and milk cows. Joe's early experiences included selling vegetables door to door with his father or one of his brothers. He attended a one-room schoolhouse on Baker Hill before heading to Newport for high school. His life took a patriotic turn during World War II when he served in the Army Air Corps. He then went on to study agriculture at UNH.  He married Beverly Burroughs on November 2, 1957 and had two children, Joe, Jr. and Brenda. He worked for OD Hopkins, where he constructed ski lifts before dedicating himself for almost three decades to the Mt. Sunapee State Park as an aerial lift mechanic. Even with a full-time job, Joe continued to work cultivating vegetables and selling them at the family farm. He did his civic duty by being a member of the Newbury Volunteer Fire Department for many decades and for serving on the Newbury Zoning Board; including chairing the board.  Retirement didn't slow him down; he spent 14 years mowing fairways at Baker Hill Golf Club. He spent over 30 years with Beverly wintering in Englewood, FL. He looked forward to going to Florida every winter, but really looked forward to getting back home to start his vegetable garden. He tended his garden with a lot of pride, growing big onions, tomatoes and sweet corn. Nothing gave him more happiness than sharing them. Joe loved seeing and playing with his two great granddaughters, Lorelei and Aurora. They brought him much joy and love.  He is predeceased by his brothers Carl, Robert and Dominic. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Beverly Digilio and his children: Joseph Digilio, Jr. and his wife Lois of Hudson, NH, Brenda Digilio and her longtime partner Doug Sweet of North Sutton, NH; one grandchild Nikia Davis and her husband Pat of Nashua, NH; two great grandchildren Lorelei and Aurora; and his sister Rosina Stark, brother Richard Digilio and sister-in-law Felda Digilio. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.  Calling hours will be Friday, April 26, 5 to 7 pm, at Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main Street, New London. Funeral services are planned for Saturday April 27, 11 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 724 Main street, New London. Following the service light refreshments will be served downstairs in the church. The family will have a private burial at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Muster Field Farm Museum, P.O. Box 118, North Sutton, NH  03260.
