Joseph's Obituary

Joseph J. Guartafierro, born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, passed away at home in Wanaque, NJ on Christmas morning. He was the son of the late Angelo and Adeline (nee Pepenella) Guartafierro. Joseph worked for over thirty years at the American Field Service, a foreign exchange student program, in New York City. He was devoted to his family and absolutely adored his precious granddaughter, Samantha Dawn.Joe loved to travel and was able to enjoy many cruises during his retirement years, traveling through most of Europe, the Caribbean, the Mexican Riviera, Alaska and Hawaii with his wife Jill and almost always, lifetime friends Barbara and Steve Petti, as his side.He leaves behind his wife of forty-five years, Jill (nee Bergquist), two sons, Joseph and Scott, daughter in law Sarah and granddaughter Samantha. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no viewing, however, a funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday morning, December 30th, 10:00 am at St. Bonaventure Church, 174 Ramsey Street, Paterson, NJ 07501. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in his honor to either the John Theurer Cancer Center, Multiple Myeloma Division at Hackensack Hospital, NJ or Valley Hospice, 15 Essex Rd, Suite 301, Paramus, NJ 07652.
