I had the pleasure of teaching Mr. Lunt's children at Eureka High School. They were both young people of the highest caliber, reflecting so well on their parents. When our boy's track and field team won the school's first state championship in any sport, he had bumper stickers printed celebrating that championship. That meant so much to me. It is clear he was a man who paid attention to what was going on and was always finding a way to give some love and/our resources to what he found before...

Joe is in the middle, please disregard the arrows pointing at Jack, this is from our family album..

One of the many events Joe was involved in... Eureka Days Parade.. 1993. Also in the picture... John (Jack) Hirsch, his son John Hirsch and Gene Jefferson.

Rockwood Bank would not have been the same without Joe. The bank has a beautiful legacy.....One of a kind, just like Joe!
His great smile, that big deep voice and laugh, his initials monogrammed on his cuffs and his Polo oxfords! We can still see him sitting in his office, raising his arm to wave hello when you walked in the bank. 35+ years of great memories.
We are sure he and Jack (Hirsch) have found one another again..... and sharing stories just like old times. (We have...

What a joy to know Joe over many years. He helped me with personal loans and was very supportive during some tough times. We laughed so hard at crazy fun Kiwanis meetings, and at the quirks of life.

Joe was my boss for 20 years at Rockwood Bank. He was a caring person who tried to look out for his employees. With all of his accomplishments, he remained humble. He never tried to take center stage unless it was necessary. He treated me with respect and kindness. His job was very stressful at times, but he rarely lost his temper or his dignity. He was my boss and my friend. He will be greatly missed by all who enjoyed the pleasure of knowing him.

Wow it might be easier for me to write a book. The first time I ever met Joe Hunt was when Darlene and I walked into Eureka Bank to get our very first loan two broke kids without a dime and zero credit we asked to borrow $4500 to buy a mobile home in Stonebridge trailer park. Will Joe gave us that loan and we followed him all these years through Rockwood Bank. We financed many homes and also financed and grew our business of 38 years. Mid America Truck Tops all financed through Rockwood bank....

Obituary

Joseph's Obituary

Joseph G. Lunt, baptized into the hope of Christ’s resurrection, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at the age of 75. He was born on October 8, 1950, in St. Louis, Missouri.

Beloved father of Kelly (Michael) Chandler and Brian Lunt. Cherished grandfather of Dylan, Zach, Jack, Bode, Henry, and Grace, who brought him immense pride and joy. Dear brother of John Lunt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Elizabeth Bardenheier Lunt, and by his siblings Ralph Lunt, Jane Lunt Meyer, Harry Lunt, and Elizabeth Lunt Rapp-Fischer. Uncle, cousin, and friend to many. He is also survived by his first wife, Caren Libby, with whom he shared family, history, and enduring mutual respect, and by his partner, Vicki Salters, whose love and companionship brought him great joy.

Joe was the youngest of six children and grew up in a close-knit family, an experience that shaped his lifelong belief in responsibility, resilience, and the importance of showing up for others. He attended Little Flower Catholic School, CBC, UMSL, and later the LSU Graduate School of Banking, preparing him for a career rooted in integrity, discipline, and service.

Joe served as President and CEO of Rockwood Bank, where he built something far more meaningful than a financial institution. With branches in Eureka, Fenton, Wildwood, and High Ridge, Rockwood Bank became a familiar and welcoming presence across the region. It was known for its warmth and personality and often felt more like a gathering place than a bank. Everyone knew your name. There were suckers for kids, free popcorn on Fridays, customer appreciation days, floats and parades, and a genuine sense of connection that reflected Joe’s belief that banking was about relationships, not transactions.

Under his leadership, Rockwood Bank helped countless families buy homes, small businesses open their doors, and dreams take shape. In 2021, he successfully guided the sale of Rockwood Bank to Lindell Bank & Trust, closing a chapter defined by trust, stewardship, and care.

On a personal level, Joe quietly supported countless individuals, families, and charitable causes, never seeking recognition or praise. He found deep purpose in helping others through difficult seasons, often without anyone knowing he had been there at all. He believed that the most meaningful acts of kindness were done privately, with no expectation of acknowledgment.

Joe took immense pride in his children and grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to express it. His words, encouragement, and unwavering belief in them were gifts they will carry with them always.

Pop’s idea of travel was heading to the Lake of the Ozarks. He never felt the need to go far. Some of his favorite years were spent on the water, making memories with countless friends and family members. He had a gift for creating a fun, easygoing atmosphere, a place where people could let loose, laugh, and enjoy life away from the day-to-day.

Joe faced floods, fires, and challenges that would have overwhelmed many. He met each one with grace, steady resolve, and a quiet confidence that reassured those around him it was simply time to start over and build again.

A man of deep Catholic faith, Joe grew closer to God during his final year of life. He often shared thoughtful reflections on his own journey and faced this season with the same grace that defined his life, finding peace in the promise of Heaven.
