Our sincere condolences to Rosie and their family. Joe was our favorite announcer at the saddle club horse shows. He always had a kind word for everyone. We will miss him.

Joe was such a special man. Loved by so many! I have nothing but respect for Joe. So many blessed memories from when I was younger! He will be missed!!! I’m sorry I could not see you all at services!! May God comfort all of you!

Joseph's Obituary

Joseph L. Staner, 89 , of Cascade, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Accura Health Care in Cascade, surrounded by his family.

Friends and relatives of Joe may call from 9 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 3, 2025, at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa, where services for Joe will be held at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Michael Schueller presiding.  Concelebrating will be Rev. Mark Osterhaus.  Burial will be held in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Garryowen, Iowa.

Joe was born June 1, 1936, in rural Cascade, Iowa, son of Wilfred and Martha (Peiffer) Staner.  On October 15, 1957, he was united in marriage to Rosemary McKenna at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Garryowen, Iowa.

The couple farmed in the rural Cascade area, Joe had a great passion for farming and took pride in his place he had beef cattle, dairy cattle and pork through out the years, until retiring and moving to Cascade.  Through their 68 years of marriage it was always “Family is the First and Foremost important thing in life.”

He is a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade, Iowa, and the Cascade Knights of Columbus Council #930.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Staner of Cascade, IA; three children, Ann (Dennis) Dailey of Spring Hill, FL, Betty (Bruce) Carey of Athens, IL. And Cathy (Alan) Niemeier of Argyle, WI; one son-in-law, Tim Valantine of Monticello, IA; several grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Janet Siegert of Peosta, IA.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter Laurie Valentine on May 15, 2020; his siblings and their spouses, Janice (Victor) Kraus, Marie (Frank) Orr and Paul (Janet) Staner; two brothers-in-law, Bill Siegert and Bob McKenna.
