Diane and family. My sincere condolences in the passing of your mother. I know it's hard, I've been where you are. God makes no mistakes, he needed an angel and she was chosen. May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

My heart goes out to the entire Family of Mrs. Josephine. I have known her all of my life. She was my mother's best Friend. I always recognized her as my auntie. Our families lived 2 doors down from each other in my toddler years. She was like my other Mom. Sweeter than sweet. Jimmy & Diane, please accept my most sincerest heartfelt Condolences. Josephine's Obituary

Josephine Shivers was born in Gary, Indiana on August 20, 1931, to Joe Henry Shivers and Rosa Mae Flenoil Shivers.  

Josephine attended Froebel High School.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized.  She was a member of Greater St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Watson. She was a member for many decades until her health started to decline.

Josephine worked for a short period of time as a cashier at Jim Roth’s Grocery Store on 25th Avenue in Gary, she worked at Spiegel’s in Chicago, and Beatty Memorial Hospital in Westville before it was converted to a prison facility.  

Josephine loved to cook that was a favorite past time.  Josephine was a very loving and kindhearted person, spirit filled, she never met a stranger.

Josephine transitioned from this life to eternal rest on Sunday, January 21, 2024.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Rosa and father, Jo Henry; grandmother, Beulah Baiz; husbands: Leroy Lyons and Jim Marks; sons: Joseph A. Lyons, Michael P. Marks and Leroy Lyons (died January 22, 2024); daughter, Bridgette Lyons; sisters: Dorothy Shivers Wilcher and Delores Washington; grandsons: Carl Dean Marks, Daryl Spud Lyons, Darion Estes, and life-long friend, Mrs. Irene Lee.

The life and memory of Josephine will be forever cherished by her family loving and devoted daughters: Diane Marks Robinson and Gail Lyons and Shauna Lyons, sons: Jim Marks, Calvin Lyons, and Timothy Lyons, special grandsons: Antonio Lyons and Cornell Lyons Greer; granddaughters: Chisa Marks and Cornisha Lyons; special nephew, Eric (Joclyn) Washington; nieces: Druscilla Wilcher Lee and Valerie Lyons Spurlock, grandsons: Vernon (Diane) Robinson, Steven T. Robinson. Jr.; 15 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren, 6 Great-Great Grandchildren and a host of relatives and family friends.
