It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce Marie Berger West, who entered eternal rest on September 25, 2025, in Johnson City, Texas, at the age of 91. She was born on August 14, 1934, in DeWitt, Texas, to Elmer and Vlasta Berger.
Joyce grew up with a steadfast spirit and strong values that guided her through life. Known for her stern but loving nature, she believed in hard work, responsibility, and doing things the right way. Those who knew her best understood that her strength was matched by a deep devotion to her family and friends.
She married Foy Emmett West, and together they raised two children, Jackie West Calhoun and Randall West. Joyce worked for many years at the Blanco Livestock Commission and also built a respected reputation as a seamstress for the public, putting care and skill into everything she created.
Outside of work, Joyce devoted herself to the Blanco Bowling Club, where she served as president and bookkeeper. Her dedication and passion for the sport earned her a place in the club’s Hall of Fame—an honor she treasured.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Jackie; her grandchildren, Blake West, Amanda Critchfield (Chad), and Brittany Calhoun Klix (Kristopher) and many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Foy, and her parents, Elmer and Vlasta; her son, Randall West; and her grandson’s Shawn Cole & Kevin Shea Calhoun.
She will be remembered as the backbone of her family and community—a woman whose guidance, love, and example shaped the lives of those around her.
Graveside services will be 10:00 am on Monday, October 13, 2025 at the historic Blanco Cemetery. Following the service, the family welcomes friends and family to gather at the Blanco Bowling Club for a reception in celebration Joyce’s life.
