Words are not enough to express how sorry my husband, Gerald Akujobi and I are for your loss. May God bless, comfort, and give each of you strength to make it through this difficult time. Our prayers and condolences go out to each of you. Juan was a good man. May the great memories you shared with him live on forever in your hearts.

May the lord now hold your soul for all the good you have done to mankind and your family. You Juan will never be forgotten here on earth for we will keep you memory alive through what we have learned from you and pass your goodness to others through story we know of you and have told us. I was so saddened to here of the passing of my old buddy Juan, we went to ECW and graduated together back in ‘72. I would see him at the local 1010 25 year picnic where we would reminisce of past times. He always had that infectious smile. My most sincere condolences to all his family, may god bless him and may he rest in peace.

Juan's Obituary

Juan P. Guajardo,

age 72, of Merrillville, formerly of East Chicago, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 21, 2025. Juan is survived by his loving wife for an amazing 50 years, Martha (nee Espinoza) Guajardo, with whom he had just joyfully celebrated their golden anniversary. He also leaves behind loving children, Juan J. (Jennifer), Adam B. (companion, Jennifer Garcia) and Eric D. (fiancé, Veronica Aguilar); precious grandchildren, McKayla Marie, Caiden Christopher, Cristian Xavier and Elliana Rose; brother, Oscar (late, Maria G.) Guajardo. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and many members of his exteneded family. Juan also cherished his friends, who he considered "FAMILY". He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Samuel and Estefana (nee Plata) Guajardo; siblings, Samuel, David, Lydia and Alecia.

A 1972 graduate of Washington High School in East Chicago, Juan dedicated 40 years of service to the union Local 1010 at Inland Steel / Arcelor Mittal. He also dedicated 10 years with the Merrillville school corporation. He was a proud member of the Moose Lodge in Hammond, Indiana.

Juan had passion for life and was the happiest when spending time outdoors. He enjoyed playing pool, listening to music, dancing and traveling-whether it was Europe, the Smoky Mountains, or Texas. His warm spirit, devotion to family, and the love he shared with Martha will always be remembered. 

A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave., Schererville, IN 46375. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home from 3:00PM to 7:00 PM. A prayer service will start at 6:30PM with Fr. Steven Caraher officiating. Services conclude at the funeral home.
