Juanita Cañedo passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025. Born in San Antonio, Texas, to Alfredo and Juaquina Rodriguez, Juanita was a beloved matriarch of her family and a member of her community, remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering support for those around her.She is survived by her children, Arturo and Juan; her daughters-in-law, Mary, Alma, and Susan Cañedo; her grandchildren, Vanessa Cañedo (Daniel), Amanda (Greg) Stuart, Arthur Cañedo (Phoebe), Jerry De La O (Stephanie), Ryan Cañedo (Chastity) and Daniel Villanueva (Cinthia); her great-grandchildren, Theodore and Jack Stuart, Austin, Mathew and Keilee De La O, Rose and Reina Cañedo, Lucia and Lilia Villanueva, and Tristan Rodriguez. She is also survived by her sisters, Consuelo Rodriguez Hernandez and Maria Dolores Rodriguez Davila; and her brother, Roberto Rodriguez. Juanita was preceded in eternal rest by her husband, Alfonso Cañedo; her sons, Alfonso Jr. and Roberto Cañedo; her daughter, Maria Villanueva and her siblings, Ricardo Rodriguez, Alfredo Rodriguez, Enrique Rodriguez, Raul Castillo, Rodolfo Rodriguez, Maria Rodriguez De La Cruz, Nasario Castillo, and Ramiro Rodriguez. A daughter, friend and most importantly, the matriarch of a happy family of four boys. She worked tirelessly to keep them safe and happy through many challenges sent her way. Despite anything that might come their way, she was the rock that stood solid and the one her family held onto for safety and comfort. Whether it be providing for their well-being, sitting with them through serious illnesses, or defending them vigorously as they made their way through life. When her family’s safety was threatened by flooding due to inaction by the city government, she joined Citizens Organized for Public Service (COPS) and demonstrated against that injustice. Her efforts led to the project that solved the problems not only for her family but the neighborhoods that had been victimized by dangerous flooding. Throughout her life, Juanita touched the lives of many with her generous spirit and dedication. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.Visitation will be begin on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 6:00pm with a Rosary at 7:00pm at the Angelus Funeral Home. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 11:00am at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, followed by interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, where she will join her husband, Alfonso P. Cañedo, who preceded her in eternal rest.
