Katharine Lynn Key

Katharine Lynn Key passed from this life into God's embrace on December 17, 2025 surrounded by her family in Wichita Falls, Texas. 

Katharine Lynn Key was born on March 1, 1952 to Lavurn Winford Key and Jeanette Lovelle (Mansell) Key in El Campo, Texas. She was the first born of seven children and had two brothers and four sisters.

Kathy lived in Frederick, Oklahoma before moving to Wichita Falls, Texas. She attended Frederick Public Schools. Kathy made her career as a medical bookkeeper and in various accounting positions. She had a huge passion for crunching numbers. 

Kathy was united in marriage and was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Amy Jeanette (Key) Pool on December 3, 1976. Amy was Kathy’s world and the light of her life. Kathy was blessed with two grandsons, Weston Chase Key and Bailey Shane Key, and one granddaughter, Ashlynn Jeanette Key. She was also blessed with two great-grandsons, August Levi Pool and Owen Shane Key, and one bonus great-grandson, Derrick Ray Veitenheimer. They all shared a very special, unbreakable bond. 

Kathy previously had a beautiful daughter, Jenny Slater Slagle, who was adopted into her loving, forever family as an infant. Kathy and Jenny reconnected later in life.

Kathy lived her life for her family. She loved her family fiercely and deeply and enjoyed spending as much time as possible with them. She took pride in being a wonderful daughter to her own mother and a wonderful mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her children and grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Kathy managed to do everything and be everywhere for them. Even from a young age, Kathy went above and beyond for her family. Kathy was a selfless, genuine, extraordinary woman. She was witty, spunky and a joy to be around.

She is survived by one brother, John Lavurn Key, three sisters, Frances Helen Samples, Annette Louise Callen and husband, Terry Gene Callen, Janet Lee Huggins and Ronnie Wayne Cross, two  grandsons, Weston Chase Key and Alyssa Nicole Geter, Bailey Shane Key and wife, Danielle (Shipley) Key,  one granddaughter, Ashlynn Jeanette Key, two great-grandsons, August Levi Pool, Owen Shane Key, and a bonus great-grandson Derrick Ray Veitenheimer, former son-in-law Jeremy Shane Pool, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who are considered family.

She is preceded in death and reunited with her beloved daughter, Amy Jeanette Key; beloved mother, Jeanette Lovelle Key; father, Lavurn Winford Key; brother, Robert Lavurn Key; and sister Karen Sue (Key) Ryan.

A Celebration of Life for Katharine Lynn Key, age 73, will be held at a later date.
