Kathleen was a friendly cafeteria lady at Arlington High School. Moreover, she was a helpful volunteer for my legal debate class. One of my students had conceived of a cafeteria "robbery" that could be the subject of a classroom mock court competition, and Kathleen volunteered to help out. With a stack of fake money in the cash register, the robbery took place, and the courtroom drama was so interesting that NBC TV filmed it for viewing on prime time TV. Born June 10, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois, Kathleen G. Selgrad, nee Remele, died August 16, 2016 surrounded by her loving family at the age of 85. She was a former employee of Zurich Insurance Company and worked in food service for District 214. Kathleen was also a past president for the Women Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 208 in Arlington Heights, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother. She was the loving mother of John, Madelyn (Bob) Schmidt and Marty (Sherry) Selgrad. She was the cherished grandmother of Jackie (Roger), John Jr., Andy (Amber), and Jim. Dear great grandmother of Jake, Alexis and Kate. Dear aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 PM, and Saturday from 10 AM until time of service at 11 AM at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, 330 W. Golf Road, Schaumburg. Interment St. Michael the Archangel, Palatine, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to St Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38105.
