Kay Burk Wright of Johnson City passed away Thursday, June 5, 2025, in Fredericksburg, TX. Kay was born October 8, 1943, in Austin to Willie W. Burk and Thelma (Watson) Burk.
Kay was raised in Austin, graduating from Austin High School in 1962. Shortly after, she married her high school sweetheart, James Wesley Wright. Together, they built a beautiful life and shared 62 devoted years of marriage, raising a close-knit and loving family.
Kay was a proud and dedicated mother to her three sons, all while working full-time. She always made a point to have fun with her boys, creating memories that remain among their most cherished. She found great joy in her grandchildren, never missing a moment to show them love and support.
Professionally, Kay held a range of roles that reflected her work ethic and commitment to her community. She served as Vice President of Austin National Bank, worked in various State and County positions, was a Blanco County Tax Assessor, and ultimately retired from Pedernales Falls State Park.
Kay is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, James Wesley Wright; her sons, Wesley J. Wright, Richard A. Wright, and Steven J. Wright and his fiancé Misti Killingsworth; her grandchildren, Evan J. Wright, Kelly M. Crosby and her husband Jacob, Colton Wright, and Caleb Wright and his wife Emily; two great-grandsons, Jase and Jameson, and a great-granddaughter expected in December. She is also survived by her brother, Larry Burk and his wife Helen, cherished nieces and nephews, and a host of dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Thelma Burk, her infant brother Carl Allen Burk, her brother Wade Burk and daughter in law, Nicole Wright.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Crofts – Crow Funeral Home in Johnson City. A service honoring Kay’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Liberty Lighthouse Fellowship, 321 Old River Crossing, Johnson City, TX 78636.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 5508 Highway 290 West, Suite 206, Austin, Texas 78735.
