Rev. Kelly Childs Jr. went home to be with the Lord on August 16, 2015 at the age of 62 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was born on March 18, 1953 to Gwendolyn Childs of Philadelphia, PA and the late Kelly Childs Sr. Rev. Childs was the oldest of seven siblings.To close friends and family, Kelly was better known as ?Bunny?. Kelly received his early education at Reynolds Elementary School. He received his high school diploma from Thomas A. Edison High School in Philadelphia. Kelly also received a degree in biblical studies from Philadelphia College of Bible.He came to know the Lord at an early age while attending Miller Memorial Baptist Church of Philadelphia under Pastor Rollin Jones. Upon moving from the neighborhood and answering the call of the Lord to the ministry, he joined and was licensed to preach at Mitchell Baptist Church of Philadelphia under Pastor Earnest C. Graves. Being an active member of the church, he also received various certifications for his service as a Sunday school teacher. Kelly was a member of Mitchell Baptist Church for more than 40 years. While at the church, he served in many capacities. He loved teaching vacation bible school and played a critical role in establishing various outreach programs at the church. Kelly preached at many churches throughout the Greater Philadelphia Area. Kelly led many individuals to know Christ and was a strong believer in evangelism and discipleship. Although Kelly was blind, he refused to allow his blindness to stop him. He received guide dog training and had three of his own. Kelly loved dogs and they became more companions than just guide dogs. He was determined to reach his highest ability. He would not allow his blindness to stop him from working for the Lord. Kelly loved music and studied at Settlement Music School. Truly Bunny was loved by many, family and friends near and far. Having finished his course and kept his faith, he will be missed by his mother Gwendolyn Childs; siblings, Cheryl, Linwood, Linda, Rodney, Mae and Endora, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and friends that love and cherish him.
