Kenneth A. Peterson, Jr., age 58 of Steger, Illinois, passed away suddenly, September 16, 2024. Beloved husband of 26 years to Alice Peterson nee Bruen. Loving father of Kate Bilotta, Alex (Jackie) Peterson, Randall (Riley) Peterson, and Cameron Peterson. Cherished grandfather “Pop” of Mia and Luna. Dearest brother of Kim (Phil) Hantak and Kari Kunkes. Caring son of the late Kenneth A. (Marilyn) Peterson Sr.
Ken received his bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in 1988, graduating cum laude. He earned magna cum laude honors when he received his jurisprudence doctorate in 1991 from Indiana University. He was a Partner of the law firm Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton, LLP in Chicago.
A lifelong Steger resident, Ken was first elected Village Trustee in 2003. Ken served as the Chairperson of the Village of Steger’s Economic Development Committee prior to becoming Village President, and he served as Chairman of Steger’s Board of Fire & Police Commissioners prior to being elected as a Village Trustee. Ken was elected the 21st Village President in 2013 – Present.
In addition to his professional and civic career, Ken was a coach with the Steger Basketball Program and was active in the Boy Scouts of America. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 1980 and was a member of the Scouts’ Order of the Arrow. He and his wife Alice continue to work with Steger Cub Scout Pack 173, the Cub Pack to which he belonged when he was a boy, and Boy Scout Troop 173, a troop that Alice, Ken’s father and Ken formed in Steger. Ken and Alice are also members of Steger’s Kiwanis Club.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, September 29, 2024 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Louis Sherman Community Center 3501 Hopkins St., Steger, IL 60475.
