Kenneth Richard Schaeffer, Sr age 83 of Galax, Virginia passed away Tuesday, November 13,
2018.
Mr. Schaeffer was born in Hamburg, PA on August 19, 1935 to Franklin and Dorothy Emerick
Schaeffer. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, John Schaeffer.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Georgina Mae Margetanski Schaeffer; son and
daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Kathy Schaeffer of Tucson, AZ; daughter, Ann Martin of King,
NC; son, George Schaeffer of Galax, VA; son, David Schaeffer of Tooele, UT; daughter, Sharon
McCombs of Galax, VA; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Chris Diamond of Riverview, FL;
seventeen grandchildren: Steven Michael, Robert, Hillary, Nicholas, Jeffery, Travis, Kyle,
Brianna, Allison, Johnny, Lauren, Haley, Zach, Gina, Jarrod, Sarah and Abbey; fourteen
great-grandchildren; his brother, Robert Schaeffer and sister-in-law Margaret Schaeffer of
Sebring, FL; sister, Elaine Schaeffer and significant other Grady Vass of Galax, VA; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Kenneth was a proud member of the community and will be fondly remembered by all those
who knew and loved him. He was a salesman in more ways than one can imagine. He was
honest, strong and loving to his wife and children. He was known affectionately as ‘mean old
grandpa’ by his grandchildren and he relished that fact. He was a good hearted man and will be
greatly missed!
The funeral service will be held Friday, November 16, 2018 at 11am at St. Joseph’s Catholic
Church, Woodlawn VA with Father David Ssentamu officiating. The family will receive friends
on Thursday evening, November 15 from six until eight at Vaughan Guynn funeral home Galax,
VA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests making Tribute Donation in Memory of Kenneth to the
Parkinson’s Foundation ( www.parkinson.org ).
