Sharon, Mary and the entire Volz family-I was so sorry to hear of Ken's passing. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

My condolences to he entire family. It hasn't been a good year so far for you. I'm really sorry.

To the Volz family: Though I did not know your Dad, I did know most of your family, and the influence he had on all of you is evident of the great family you are. Many prayers coming your way during this difficult time. May your wonderful family memories bring you some peace.

I can't begin to say how much you will be missed. You were a wonderful father and a great grandfather. You always made sure that your family was safe and taken care of. You were loved by them and many others. You always made me feel welcome and that meant a lot to me.

Kenneth's Obituary

Kenneth A. Volz, Sr., 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Services: Saturday at 10:30, at St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Friday at Teahen Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m., and on Saturday after 9:30 a.m. at the church. 

Kenneth is survived by his wife of 60 years, Catherine; son, John (Ellen) Volz; daughters, Karen Volz (Lance Heeren), Sharon Volz, Mary (Michael) Hansen, and Ann Volz all of Cedar Rapids, and Sara (Rob) Keller, of Dubuque; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a brother, Jon O. Volz of Cedar Rapids; sister, Molly B. McMullen of Cedar Rapids; and many loving nieces and nephews. 

Kenneth is preceded in death by his son, Kenneth, Jr.; stepfather Richard McMullen; stepmother Vera Volz; and sister, LeAnn Homan. 

Kenneth was born on June 27, 1934 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Kenneth and Emma Mrstyk Volz. He attended McKinley High School, and was a veteran of the Marine Corps. On October 26, 1957 he married Catherine Holtz at Immaculate Conception Church in Cedar Rapids. In 1989, he retired as a supervisor after 30 years of service with the United States Postal Office. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church. 

Kenneth was a dedicated, loving father who enjoyed spending time collecting coins, fishing, and being with his family. He was the family dispatcher, and was always there ready to respond when someone needed help. Kenneth will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
