Kevin R. "KP" Patterson, Sr.

1963 - 2025

Mr. Kevin R. Patterson, Sr., 61, affectionately known as "K.P.", departed this life on January 8, 2025. Kevin was born on December 31, 1963 in Richmond, VA to the late Alice P. Smith and Percy L. Smith, Jr.                                     

He was educated in the Petersburg Public Schools System and graduated from Petersburg High School with the Class of 1983. He loved watching football, basketball, and boxing. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan that would watch every game with the love of his favorite Cherry Coke and Chili Hot Dog.

He worked various jobs in his lifetime and was not afraid to try new things. He was currently employed by Central State Hospital until his health began to decline. To know him was to love him. He was a very laid back, sociable and likeable person that enjoyed spending time talking with friends and loved ones. He will be greatly missed by everyone.

He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Mrs. Alice P. Smith; maternal grandparents, Mrs. Florine E. Patterson (Fred); paternal grandparents, Mrs. Lessie Smith (Percy Sr.); two brothers, Mr. Anthony Patterson and Mr. Terrance Smith, Sr.; father-in-law, Mr. Carl Blackwell; a honorary sister, Ms. Barbara Heath; niece, Ms. Shamica Graves Patterson; cousin, Ms. Cheryl Smith; and aunt, Mrs. Alma Burgess.

He leaves to cherish his precious and loving memories: a devoted and loving father, Mr. Percy L. Smith of Petersburg, VA; a devoted spouse, Mrs. Vickie P. Blackwell of Petersburg, VA.; two loving and devoted children, Kevin Patterson, Jr., (Tamika) of Petersburg, VA, and Diamon Patterson of Maryland; one granddaughter whom he loved dearly, Kynnedi Patterson; seven loving and devoted siblings, Cynthia Patterson, Timothy Patterson, Fred Patterson, Sr. (Tiffany) and Carrie Smith all of Raleigh,  NC, Sonia Smith (Edward), Rhonda Harris (Ronnie), and Duane Smith all of Petersburg, VA; one aunt and uncle, Shelverden Smith of Petersburg VA and Fred "Baebro" Patterson (Olga) of Westhampton, NJ; and mother-in-law, Mrs. Mable Blackwell; two brothers-in-law, Kerrington Blackwell and Vincent Batts; devoted nieces and nephews, Diesha Patterson, Yolanda Coleman, Devon Heath, Nicole Heath, Aaron Heath, Latoya Turner, Timothy Patterson, Jr., Taron Patterson, Timiya Patterson, Tevin Patterson, Tyrik Patterson, Nekwon Smith, Jhavar Smith, Senacia Parham, Jasmine Parham, Johnathan Smith, Jacoby Smith, Keontae Smith, Raneq Smith, Ronnie Harris Jr., Deja Walker, De'yanna George, Desaiah Massenburg, Pharoah Hanks, Ayonnah Dean, Dejuan Smith, Nikki Ziegler, Esther Prado, Tajonae Patterson, Jamon Chavis, Tynesha Chavis, Javon Chavis, Fred Patterson, Jr. Breona Brown, John Coleman, Tishina Goode, Terrika Davis, Tremaya Smith, Terrance Smith, Jr. and Ter'siya Smith; seven first cousins, Keith  Smith, Kermit Smith, Corey Smith, and Dervin Tucker all of Petersburg, VA, Fred Patterson III, James Patterson and Shahira Patterson all of Westhampton, NJ; devoted friends,  Kevin was a all around well-known individual especially in the 5 Ward Community and had a numerous amount of devoted and loving friends, two in particular Melvin Rose, Sr. and Wayne Taylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends too numerous to name.

Services will be held 12 Noon, Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Third Baptist Church, 550 Farmer Street, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Kassandra Bullock, Pastor. The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
