Kevin's Obituary

Visitation for Kevin Joseph Teehan, 84, of Grayslake, Illinois, will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 22233 West Erhart Road, Mundelein, IL. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Mass at 11:00 a.m. Kevin spent his final days surrounded by family and passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025.

Kevin was born January 11, 1941, in the Bronx, New York, to Patrick James Teehan and Elizabeth Francis Teehan (née O’Neill). Kevin was the fourth of five brothers: Michael, Francis, Brendan, and Brian.

After graduating from Evander Childs High School, Kevin soon shipped off to Parris Island and entered the United States Marine Corps. He later returned to New York and joined the NYPD as a police officer, serving a full career on the job. Following his service, Kevin graduated from Hunter College with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and began a new career as an Emergency Room Nurse, where he served faithfully until his retirement in 2001.

Kevin and his bride, Theresa (Terri) Maureen Teehan (née Kelly), were married on June 27, 1964, and recently celebrated 61 years of marriage. Kevin often told the story of meeting Terri as a “love at first sight” moment. Together they raised their family in Staten Island, New York, until 1981, then moved to Coral Springs, Florida. In 2001, they settled in Grayslake, Illinois, to be near their ten grandchildren.

Kevin lived with passion for God, family, friends, and work, and embraced the simple joys of life. He found meaning in peaceful moments, taking long walks, creating and cooking healthy dishes, enjoying bluegrass and Irish folk music, sitting by a campfire, or kayaking on his lake. He found joy in celebrating holidays, family milestones, and sharing conversations about travel, Ireland, his trips there as a child, and his pride in becoming an Irish citizen in 2008, as well as investment strategies with anyone willing to listen. He also valued his friendships at St. Mary of the Annunciation and was devoted to praying the Holy Rosary.

His role as Opa was a cherished identity, a source of joy, and a mark of love within the family. His grandchildren knew him as a steady, loving, and joy-filled presence in their lives.

“For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be” (Luke 12:34). Kevin’s life reflected this truth, valuing heavenly riches over earthly possessions, loving and serving with joy even in trials, and living with the hope of one day sharing in the glory of God’s Kingdom.

Kevin is survived by his wife Terri; his children Kevin (Katie) Teehan, Peggy (Glenn) Way, Jim (Michele) Teehan, and Michael (Fritzie) Teehan; and his grandchildren Megan (Nick), Patrick (Grace), Jack, and Caitlin; Matthew (Meghan), Sarah, Marissa, and Nathan; and Raymond and Laura.  He was a devoted uncle to dozens of nieces and nephews in the Teehan and Kelly families and held his many cousins close to his heart.

Burial will be at St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Cemetery immediately following the Mass.

We commend Kevin to the mercy of God, in the hope of the resurrection and in honor of his devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose Assumption into heaven we celebrate this week, a sign of the eternal life promised to all believers.

Those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church in his name.
