Cindy, Blake, and Chad,
So sorry for you and your family’s loss. Kirk was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and human being. We still remember coming up there to gather pecans and Kirk brought Evie up to take Sophia over to feed the cows. Juleene and I will be praying for all of you.

Kirk was a friendly, kind, respectful, and considerate human being. He was one of the few people who checked on William and came to see him when he was going through that awful chemo and radiation. His passing truly leaves a void in our lives.

Kirk Leroy Zessin, a revered husband, brother, uncle, father, grandfather, and loyal friend went to be with the Lord Friday, September 27, 2024. He was born October 8, 1962, in Shenandoah, Iowa to Jim and Lynette Zessin.
Kirk’s journey through life was characterized by hard work and an unwavering commitment to his family. In his younger years, he was an excellent water skier and talented multisport athlete. He grew up in Florala and could be seen slaloming and barefooting around Lake Jackson almost daily. After graduating from Florala High School in 1981 and Troy State University in 1985, he embarked on a successful career path that led him to spend 34 years as a UPS package car driver. What he loved most about UPS was his people; the people he worked with and the people he delivered to daily; and they loved him too. Kirk was the head usher and teller for New Harmony Baptist Church for many years. His love for the Lord was steadfast. Kirk was especially loved by all the children in church as he always had a pocket full of candy and a hug to give them.
Known for his strong work ethic and selflessness, Kirk always put his family first. His dedication to providing for his loved ones was evident in everything he did. He loved his friends and was known to pick up and deliver fresh corn, peanuts, and watermelon in the community. Outside of work, he found joy in being an avid outdoorsman, spring turkey hunting, fishing on the Choctawhatchee and Yellow rivers and working on something with his sons. Watching his sons play basketball through the years was one of his greatest joys. The only thing Kirk loved more than turkey hunting was being a Papa. He lived to put a smile on his granddaughters, Evie and Viv’s faces, and a piece of candy in their hand.
Kirk was a fighter his whole life. He endured a bone marrow transplant and beat cancer. He faced every obstacle with courage and toughness without complaining. The only fight he ever lost was his last, and even on his last day, he never gave up.
Kirk is preceded by death by his parents, Jim and Lynette North Zessin. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Cynthia; his sons in his likeness, Blake (Maryllyn), Chad, and grandchildren Evie and Viv Zessin. Three brothers, Brent Zessin (Missy), Kent Zessin (Mandy), Scott Zessin (Tanya),
He is also survived by an abundance of extended loved ones, including in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Kirk Leroy Zessin will be 12:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at New Harmony Baptist Church. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 – 12:00. Interment will be in the New Harmony Baptist Cemetery. Evans Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements with Pastors Todd Camp and David Amason officiating.
