KONSTANTINOS N. "GUS"'s Obituary

With full hearts, we honor and celebrate the life of Konstantinos “Gus” Aslanis—beloved father, Papou, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Born in the small coastal village of Ormos on the island of Samos, Greece, Gus was shaped by the sea, community, and the simple values of hard work and generosity.

As a young man, he served proudly in the Greek Merchant Marines as a radio operator, navigating the world with steady hands and a steady mind. He later traveled across the ocean to the United States, settling in Cleveland, Ohio. With determination and grit, he taught himself the English language and built his life by sheer perseverance. A self-made electrician, Gus became known not only for his skill, but for an unmatched work ethic. He did not measure success by what he accumulated—but by what he gave.

And he gave abundantly. Time, care, laughter, resources—if he had it, so did you. Gus lived simply but loved richly. To know him was to be on the receiving end of generosity that asked for nothing in return.

His proudest role in life was that of father to his daughter, Angelique Callahan, with whom he shared a deep, unshakeable bond. He held immense love and respect for her husband, David, often saying he felt like a brother to him. Above all else, Gus’s heart shined brightest in his role as Papou to his grandchildren—Brock, Brody, and Toby, William, Brayden and Ava—who brought him endless joy and purpose.

He is also survived by his younger brother Michael Aslanis and wife Dotty, as well as his dear cousin Mary “Maritsa” Parashos. Gus cherished his nephews, niece and cousins - each one held a special place in his heart:

Nick & Lisa Aslanis,

Dean & Kerry Aslanis,

John & Shannon Aslanis,

Leila & Brandon Hilvert, Athena “Athenoula” & Ron Skowronek, Angie “Vangelio” Ropotas, and Mike & Barb Parashos.

Gus believed that family was not only blood, but anyone you held close. And once he loved you, he loved you fiercely.

He leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, generosity without condition, and a reminder that the greatest wealth is found in how we treat others. His life was humble. His impact was immeasurable. His absence will be deeply felt.

In honoring Gus, we honor the simple truth he lived by: Be kind. Work hard. Give freely. And don’t be a “Jamoke”.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Konstantinos "Gus" Aslanis at the Behind the Woods Restaurant, 21919 Center Ridge Road, Cleveland, OH,44116 from 5-8PM on Sunday, November 2nd.

May his memory be eternal. Αἰωνία ἡ μνήμη.
