We first met Kris when she and Mark moved into a house 2 doors down from us in Centreville in late December 1987. We were the first to move in on our street, and they moved in the very next day. My sweet friend Kris!

Kris was such a beautiful person inside and out. She showed me kindness and understanding when I was in a difficult time, and that is something I’ll never forget. I remember meeting Kris 7 years ago, and feeling an instant connection. She gave us a warm welcome to Quail Pond and showed genuine interest in our culture. Kristine's Obituary

Kristine (Zabinski) Birmingham of Ashburn, VA, passed away peacefully at her home with family by her side, on November 11, 2025, at age 67. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Mark R. Birmingham, her sister Barbara (James) Greene of Apalachin NY and brother Jerry (Colleen) Zabinski of Endwell NY; her sons, Michael J. Birmingham (Justine) of Washington DC and Mark M. Birmingham of Reston VA, and her grandchild John. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and dear friends. 

Kris was born in Syracuse, NY, the daughter of Leon and Helen Zabinski. She received a M.B.A. from the William E. Simon School of Management, University of Rochester, Rochester, New York; and a B.S. from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. Over the course of her career, she held senior finance roles across public accounting, healthcare, and nonprofit organizations, where her leadership and integrity left a lasting impact.

Kris was a devoted wife, mother and friend whose greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. She welcomed all with compassion, celebrating their joys and listening with a heart full of faith 

Above all, family was her foundation and her greatest joy. She took pride in her Polish heritage and found deep fulfillment in the lives of her two sons, who were her proudest achievements. Her legacy is one of quiet strength, unwavering love, and a generous spirit.

The family expresses appreciation for the high quality and compassionate care provided by Capital Caring Health of Aldie VA, Inova Woman’s Hospital of Fairfax VA, Inova Loudoun Hospital of Lansdowne VA and Home Instead Services of Manassas VA.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Theresa Catholic Church (21370 St. Theresa Ln, Ashburn VA) on Friday, November 21, at 10:15 am. Internment is private at Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to a charity of your choice.
