Larry's Obituary

Larry Chavez, age 86, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, in Chandler, Arizona. Born on March 12, 1939, in Wheatland, Wyoming, Larry lived a full and meaningful life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys that brought him happiness.

Larry and Feliz were married on November 11, 1961 at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Winslow, Arizona and enjoyed 64 years of marriage.  They lived for many years in Winslow until they moved to Tempe, Arizona, in 2021.

Larry proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. Following his military service, he built a respected career as a locomotive engineer—a profession that reflected both his strong work ethic and steady nature. His commitment to his work was matched only by his devotion to those he loved. He worked for the railroad for forty-three years and retired in 2000.

A man of many passions, Larry found joy in the timeless sounds of country music oldies, especially the songs of Johnny Cash and Buck Owens. He was an avid sports fan who cheered faithfully for the Phoenix Suns and Arizona Cardinals—celebrating their victories with enthusiasm. During the holiday season, Larry took great pride in decorating what he fondly called his "great wall" for Christmas, creating festive displays that brought delight to all who saw them.

Above all else, Larry cherished time spent with his family. He had a special place in his heart for spoiling “his girls,” grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His warmth and generosity left lasting impressions on those fortunate enough to know him.

Remaining to cherish Larry's memory are his beloved wife Feliz; daughters Lori and her husband John Mullens, Lisa and her husband Billy Barton; grandchildren Dany Mullens, Christan Balderrama, Rey Chavez-Velez, Kobe and Jake Barton; great-grandchildren Anthony and Ariella; siblings Priscilla and Leroy Chavez as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He is reunited in peace with his daughter Linda Ann Chavez; parents Amelia and Juan Chavez; siblings Bernice Quintana, Bill and Jerry Chavez.

Please join us as we celebrate Larry’s life on February 20, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. Services will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona (2929 East Pinnacle Peak Road, Phoenix, AZ 85024). When you arrive, the digital marquee at the entrance will display the specific shelter number for Larry’s service.

May Larry’s memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire love across generations.
