Lawrence (Larry) Davis Raye passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 30, 2026. Larry was born July 14, 1941 to Jack Davis Ray and Mozelle Denny Ray. A native of Smith County, Larry and his wife, Sally Cox Raye resided in Nashville for the last 50 years of their lives. Larry retired as Director of Disability for the State of Tennessee in 1994. He was a member of Christ Church Episcopal in Nashville.
Larry and Sally traveled Europe extensively throughout their lives. Larry was an avid collector of fine antiques and artwork and took great pleasure in painting and birdwatching. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Sally Cox Raye, his father, Jack Davis Ray, mother, Mozelle Denny Comer and her husband, Grafton Clay Comer and a special aunt, Thelma "Aunt Shell" Webster.
He is survived by brothers, Ted (Wanda) Ray, Jack (Brenda) Ray, Ben (Patricia) Ray; nephew, Jason Hayes Ray and special cousins, Pamela Petree and Candy Allen.
Larry had chosen cremation and no services are planned. Condolences can be sent to Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Salem Cemetery Care Fund or Windsor Park Society, c/o Windsor Tower Condominiums, 4215 Harding Pike, Nashville, TN 37205
The family extends their deepest gratitude to The Webb House and Gentiva Hospice who provided compassionate care and comfort in Larry's final days.
