Larry Crump Hardman - husband, father, Bompa, big brother, friend, and cowboy among men - left behind the limiting pain of cancer on August 10, 2025, at the age of 86. He was encircled by three of his girls as he passed, and met in heaven by the baby girl he had missed for so long.
Born in Murray, Utah, on February 8, 1939, to J Warren and June Crump Hardman, Larry became the oldest of eleven. Like his dad, he joined the Riverton Rough Riders, and worked and retired from Kennecott (where he drove the largest truck in the world). He served in the Army National Guard for eight years, building roads and jumping out of airplanes, as part of the 319th Special Forces unit.
He married his ideal mate, Darlene Farnsworth, on May 10, 1968, in the then new (and only) chapel in Bluffdale, Utah. Three adoring daughters followed: Lori Ann, Cyndie Lee, and Shalawn Sue. Shalawn died at 3 years-old from multiple heart complications, leaving an always tender hole in her Daddy’s heart.
In their early years, his daughters enjoyed horseback rides with Dad, in the then wide open fields around Herriman. Later on, he would load horses into a trailer he built himself, and head to the hills (usually with Duane Park) - until age 80 when he was almost thrown, and Darlene told him he couldn't ride anymore. With friends Bob Lee, and Bart Mousley, he owned several Thoroughbreds through the years and, to the very end, loved spending time at the track with his brothers and friends. Larry was never, ever bored.
Preceded in death by his parents, J and June; daughter, Shalawn; siblings, Monty (Elaine), Marril (Jill, living); and many dear friends.
Larry is survived by his wife, Darlene; daughters, Lori (Rodney) Glenn, and Cyndie (Nathan) Anderson; siblings, Betty (Kelly, deceased) Oakeson, Kelly (Afton), Sandra (Ernie, deceased) Vigil, Verle (Diane), Rick (Michelle), Cory (Tammy, deceased), Kirk (Carolyn), and Tammy (Russell) Draper; grandchildren, Kelsey (Collin) Gordon, Denise (Mauricio) Cruz, Tate Anderson (who knows Johnny Cash and John Wayne were waiting for Bompa on the other side), Dane Anderson, and Tucker Glenn; great grandchildren, Braven Memmott, Dean Gordon, and Jack Gordon; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He loved his family. He loved horses. He loved inventing things and solving problems (if he could weld it, he could fix it); and he never had a harsh word to say - unless you burned down his hay stack (you know who you are).
The Tomb near Jerusalem was empty, Dad. Because of that, we’ll see you soon enough, and be able to tell you again how much we love you, and how thankful we are for everything you gave to us.
Special thanks to the wonderful people of Applegate Hospice; you made a hard situation doable. And thanks to all the friends and family for every act of service, kind word, and prayer; each one made a difference for good.
