Obituary for Larry P. Johnson

Larry Pete Johnson, age 77, of North Platte, NE, passed away on August 23, 2025, at his home.

He was born on January 2, 1948, at North Platte Memorial Hospital the son of Edwin A. and Minnie Elizabeth (Lange) Johnson.  

Larry Pete entered the workforce in his youth. After achieving his certification, he stated his career as a pipeline welder with Hagard’s Well Drilling. He later moved to Colorado and worked for Hanes Engineering before moving back to Nebraska and working as a contractor on various projects. He retired on May 9, 2014, with a life membership to the Pipefitters Local Union #208. 

Larry Pete will be remembered as a lover of Westerns and western culture. He could often be found tending his horses and taking scenic rides through the majestic Rocky Mountains. Larry was also a fan of classic cars and loved cruising in his Dodge pickup and causing mischief with his friends at the local bars. He was an avid golfer and a lover of dogs. The relationship between Larry and his favorite dog Luke exemplified the phrase “Man’s best friend.” Despite his many hobbies, Larry was always a family man at heart. He was always active in his family member’s lives and was always there to support the children in their endeavors.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sisters Helen (Bill) Haney and Charlene (Floyd) Danczak, brother Richard J. Pounder, special niece and nephew Mary Haney and Todd (Angie) Fisher, and many more nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Minnie, brothers Leroy Pounder and Chuck Johnson, and sister Alice Richardson.

Memorial Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Evans officiating. Memorial Book Signing will be Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, who is entrusted with the arrangement.
