Larry D. Payne Sr., 71 years of age, passed away on Wednesday December 21, 2022. Larry was born April11, 1951, in Memphis, TN to the late Jim and Lula Payne. Larry accepted Christ at an early age,graduating from Calumet High School. Larry married Bertha Nelson on February 26, 1972, and threechildren were born out of the union. He worked at Gary Tube Works for 17 years and New Energy for 18years.Larry enjoyed lighting up the grill and cooking new dishes. He had a big, infectious laugh and lovedfamily gatherings and music. His favorite holiday was Christmas where he would take special care todecorate the house inside and out.Larry is preceded in death by parents Jim and Lula Payne, two brothers Armond Van Diver and JimPayne, three sisters, Valerie (Eddie) Shufford, Terri Payne and Loraine (William) Pratchett and onegrandson Louis Robb Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Bertha Lee Payne, sons Larry (Celeste)Payne Jr., Jerell Payne, daughter ShaCarla (Louis) Payne-Robb. Eight grandchildren Robyn, Larry III, Tyler,Brandon, Ashtyn, Madyson, Gabriel, and Zyhair. Three great-grandsons Devontah, Louis, and Indigo. Onesister Julia Mullings, many in-laws and a host of family and friends.
