Not sure what to say?

I found this today. Rose Mary, we spoke years ago & you may not remember me, Sharon, Darrell's daughter, but my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this difficult time.

RoseMary and family
My Sympathy to you and family. RIP Larry !!

Rosie and family, Sorry to hear about Larry! He can now see his cousin Phil. I remember spending a lot of time with Larry in our younger days and what great times we had. I have some great memories of those times! He use to unhook the speedometer cable on his dads 49 Chevy so Ray wouldn’t know we had gone maybe 100 miles in the evening.

Rosie and family, Sorry for your loss. Many great memories growing up in Ayrshire. Stopping at your house when I delivered papers, or playing pool in the basement. Larry was a great guy a supporter of all activities at school. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Julie (Loomis) & Rick Pelechek

So very sorry for your loss. Keep all the memories close to your hearts.

Rose Mary and Family,
So sorry to hear about Larry. He was a great man who loved and gave back so much to his community. My condolences to all of you!

What a nice man and quite the character, also! We enjoyed our time together in Texas, and appreciated all his help and knowledge of the area. Our condolences to his family.

Rose Mary, Dave, Dan, Dick and Doug. I am saddened to hear of your loss. I have many fond memories of Larry. Wishing all of you and your families prayers and strength in your time of need.

Sending our sincere and loving condolences to the Rustan family. Richard always shared his find memories of his dad with us. Sending love and prayers for comfort. Sincerely, Brandon, Mercy, Carmen and kids.

Larry Dean Rustan, son of Raymond and Lily (Hansen) Rustan, was born July 12, 1938 in Spencer, Iowa.  He received his education in Gillett Grove, graduating in 1956.  Following graduation Larry attended college for one and a half years.

On November 25, 1960 Larry was united in marriage to Rose Mary Haugh at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ayrshire.  They were blessed with four sons.

Larry owned and operated his own trucking business.  He also had a Christmas tree farm for many years and was the owner of the Boat Dock Company in Ayrshire.  Following his retirement, Larry helped Ron Rouse  haul grain in the fall.  Larry truly loved this job as well as volunteering at the Clay County Fair, driving a golf cart to transport people back and forth to the gate.

Larry was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus in Laurens and currently a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer.  He served as a director on the Ayrshire telephone board as well as the nursing home board.  He was involved in the Lost Island Protective Association, had been a volunteer bus driver for sporting events and had also been a Scout leader.  Larry was a fireman in Spencer, Ruthven and Ayrshire and served as Mayor of Ayrshire for seventeen years.

Larry and Rose Mary lived on Lost Island Lake and Larry loved the “lake life” and all that it involved.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing, grilling and cooking hot dishes, especially spicy ones.  He and Rose Mary enjoyed spending their winters in South Texas for several years.  He loved having company, entertaining family and friends and driving the Shady Ladies in area parades.  Recently he had become interested in bird watching and whittling.

Larry passed away Saturday, July 10, 2021 at his home in Spencer, Iowa, at the age of 82.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Lily; a brother and sister-in-law, Burdell and Dixie Rustan; a sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Bob O’Neil; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Isadore and Bertha Haugh; brothers-in-law, Merle Peterson and Emmet Haugh.
