Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little PrinceLaura Anne Veralli, died peacefully on February 11, 2018, surrounded by loving family in Cumberland, Maine at the age of 64. In Laura's words, "I've been a very happy woman, despite having difficulties, I've had an exceptionally beautiful life. The source of my happiness has always been my family, my children, my grandchildren and my precious friends".Laura is survived by her daughters, Christine Cruz, of Honolulu, HI, and Dr. Lisa Lucas of Cumberland, ME, and her son-in-laws, Duane Cruz and Dr. Romeo Lucas. Her world revolved around her adoring grandchildren, Nicholas Matamoras, Ava and Jaden Cruz, and Sophie, Oliver and Henry Lucas. Laura is survived by her five siblings, Francine Rossi (Piero) of Northvale, NJ, Stephen Veralli (Kathy) of Venice, FL, Irene Gutmann (Charles) of Suffern, NY, Matthew Veralli of New York, NY and Claudia Veralli of Piermont, NY, along with her uncle, Frank Ripa of Pearl River, NY, her Aunt, Anna Salvani of the Bronx, NY, cousins, Lynn Kozy, Valerie Gates, Elysa Ripa and John Ripa. She was loved by her many nieces and nephews; Renee Morgan, Samantha, Christopher and Ryan Gutmann, and James and Jessica Kempton.The eldest of six children, Laura was born on July 31,1953 to the late Zina and Matthew Veralli and raised in Pearl River, NY. She graduated from Pearl River High School, studied at Mount St. Vincent, and earned her teaching degree at SUNY New Paltz. Laura taught at the North Rockland Central School district for 2 years before moving to Ramapo Central where she taught French and Spanish for 24 years until her retirement. A true testament to Laura's grace and inner strength was her ability to cope with the physical demands of MS while simultaneously carrying on a fulfilling teaching career, dedicating herself to her students. She made several trips to Europe, with Paris and the French culture capturing her heart. She loved reading, art and spending time with her grandchildren. Laura will be remembered by all who knew her as a devoted mother and grandmother who stood faithfully beside her children, friends and family.A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home located at 100 Franklin Ave, Pearl River, NY 10965, wymanfisher.com. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Laura's life. As Laura valued early foreign language education, in lieu of flowers the family is requesting scholarship donations in the name of Laura Veralli to the L'Ecole Française du Maine, a not-for-profit French immersion school.
