Lavern's Obituary

Lavern Easter, longtime resident of Burkburnett, Texas passed from this life on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at the age of 83.  She trusted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age.  Lavern taught Sunday School at Central Baptist Church in Burkburnett for longer than she taught public school.

Lavern was born on March 16, 1942 in Lubbock, Texas to Walter Thomas “Cotton” and Pauline “Polly” (Storie) Savage.  All her growing up years were in Lubbock graduating from Tom S. Lubbock High School in 1960 before her freshman year at Texas Tech.

On June 15, 1961, she married James Dale Easter in Muleshoe, Texas.  They moved their young family to Burkburnett in 1966 when James was hired as the Vocational Ag teacher.  Lavern finished her degree at Midwestern and taught Art for 14 years at BISD before completing her Library Certification.  She worked the next six years in an elementary library.  In 1993 she took a job with WFISD as an elementary Librarian for 21 years, completing a 41 years career as a teacher.  A granddaughter said it best—Don’t you know a kid always “trumps” everything with Granny!

She is survived by her husband, James Easter; her son, Keith Easter and wife Hollie; her daughter, Kelly Easter; her grandchildren, Kristina Oldham and husband Nick, Tonya Peeler and husband Daniel, Kenna Baker and husband Jordan, Kersye Easter, Sam Easter, and Truitt Easter; her great-grandchildren, Chloe Oldham, Cadence Oldham, Ian Peeler, and Zayleigh Peeler; her sister, Mary Fern Patrick and husband Cecil; and her brother, Don Savage and wife Marie.

The family will receive friends between 5 and 7 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2026 at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett.  Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2026 at Central Baptist Church in Burkburnett with Rev. James Porterfield, officiating.  Friends are welcome to visit with the family beginning at 9:00 a.m. prior to the service.  Burial will be in Winn Hill Cemetery in Jacksboro at a future date.  Arrangements are under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in honor of Lavern to Central Baptist Church, 814 Tidal St., Burkburnett, TX 76354; or to Hospice of Wichita Falls, 4400 Cypress Ave., Wichita Falls, TX 76310 (howf.org)
