Lawrence A.'s Obituaries

Lawrence A. Sowell Sr. 78, of Norwich, beloved husband of Joanna (Pegeas) Sowell died Tuesday June 30, 2015 at Hartford Hospital.

Lawrence was born in Chesterfield County, South Carolina, the son of the late William and Lona (Newman) Sowell. Prior to his retirement Lawrence was employed as a construction worker for Local 230 Hartford. Lawrence was a veteran serving with the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne Rangers, Mentor, Life-coach, Teacher, faithful friend, and Father to the Fatherless.

 Besides his wife Joanna, Lawrence is survived by two daughters, Debra Diaz (Alexander Neal) of Norwich, Karen Vargas (Tomache) of Norwich, one Niece/Daughter, Sandy Watkins (Ronald), eight grandchildren, Gary Lee Johnson (Jenny), Javier Rodriguez, Lawrence Albert Sowell III (Sosena), Kylie Diaz Mackey (Ronald), Zachary Townsend, Aquila Donte Benton, Tomache’ L.E. Vargas, Shaise Neal, one God/Grandson, Brandon Super of Columbus, Ohio, five great grandchildren, Jaeley Rodriguez, Eleni Sowell, Lavade Johnson, Stevie Johnson, John Johnson, two brothers, Roach Sowell of SC, Fred Sowell of SC, Calhoun Sowell of East Hartford, two sisters, Mary Ponds of SC, and Marjorie Miller of NC also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Lawrence Albert Sowell Jr., two brothers, Willie and J.W., and three sisters, Lolabelle, Lolamae, and Ruth. He is a man to be Honored, Admired, and Remembered.

 Funeral services will be held Tuesday July 7, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Biega Funeral Home 3 Silver Street, Middletown, CT. Friends may call prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial with military honors will be held at the State Veterans’ Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middletown, CT. Memorial donations may be sent to Living Life Leadership 1023 Sixth Street, Bremerton, WA 98312.
