Lawrence "Larry" Potter Jr.

Blythewood SC  Mr. Lawrence Eugene (Larry) Potter, Jr., 64, of Blythewood, died on Saturday,September 9, 2023. Born in Columbia, SC, on June 7, 1959, he was a son of Lawrence Eugene Potter, Sr. and Joann Bundrick Potter.Larry began working at Southeastern Freight Lines when he was 18 and remained dedicated to his work there for 30 years.He had an obsession with understanding how the world around him worked and a knack for involving his children in his day-to-day tasks, fostering a space of learning and growth through experiences both indoors and out. Whether it was in the yard, or vacationing at the lake or a campground, spending time with family was one of the most important aspects of life to him.Larry took great pride in curating the family property, and was always working on projects like building the shed out back with his father, planting and tending to a large garden, and collecting new and interesting things that might be useful to fulfill his vision.After a traumatic brain injury in 2007, his wife Nancy acted as his primary caretaker for over 15 years, advocating tirelessly to give him an opportunity to spend more time with his family, share a new chapter of their love together, and even meet his three grandchildren.In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife, Nancy Bouknight Potter; sons, Corey Andrew Potter (Ashley), Patrick Lawrence Potter, Caleb Darr Potter (Taylor); and daughter, Hannah Potter Nunez (Yanangel); grandchildren, Claire, Blythe and Blaise Potter; and sisters, Diane Hays (Mike) and Penny Horton (Preston). He was preceded in death by his daughter, Megan Potter.The funeral service for Mr. Potter will be held at 2 o’clock, Tuesday, September 12th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, with the Rev. R. Joseph Copeland officiating. Burial will follow the service in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 until 1:30 o’clock at the funeral home.
