LeBirda Richmond was born on June 17, 1938, in Hernando, Mississippi, to Archie Richmond and Cleo Chambers. She was the second of their two children and was lovingly raised by her stepfather, Tom Nix, whose guidance and presence played a significant role in shaping her life and the strong values she carried throughout her years.
In her late teens, LeBirda moved to Hammond, Indiana, where she established her home and built her career. She was a loyal employee of Pullman Standard for many years. After her time there, she continued her professional journey with JCPenney, where she applied her skills and work ethic with pride. A woman of deep faith, LeBirda was a longtime and devoted member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Throughout her years of service, she faithfully served in a variety of roles, including church nurse and Mother within the church. She had a deep passion for serving her community and was always willing to care for, guide, and support others in both word and deed.
LeBirda was preceded in death by her parents, Archie Richmond and Cleo Nix; her stepfather, Tom Nix; her brother, JD Richmond and sister-in- law Mary Elizabeth Richmond; and her daughters: Belinda Alexander and Terry Mims.
She leaves to cherish her memory her sons: Eric (Debra) Alexander and Jerald “Donnie” Temple; grandson, Tyrese (Sharrell) Alexander; grandson, Marcus Brown; great-grandsons: Jeremiah Alexander and Josiah Alexander; devoted caregiver and friend, Joella Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loved ones who will forever cherish her memory.
LeBirda Richmond departed this life on February 4, 2026. Her life was marked by faith, service, and love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
