Not sure what to say?

I spent several years with Lee, following him around Sprint and Championship Dirt car tracks as well as Indy Car races - my dad, Ray, was co-owner of his team before Indy and Lee co-owned his engine shop outside Indy. Lee was not only a fabulous driver, but a great man. Always took time for people, regardless of his crazy schedule. He could be intense one moment and laughing the next. RIP, Lee - I hope you and dad are having a bourbon together right now.

Great guy, lots of fun playing golf and having him as a neighbor at Versaille on the Lake.

Remember him growing up in Guttenberg. Always watched him race Indy car. Condolences to his family.

Lee I remember you well !! Coming down to your mom and dad's house and seeing all your trophies !! Aunt Julina and Uncle AL always grinning from ear to ear . R.I.P. Lee .

Lee "Stub" was a good man and a good friend to many. I have had the gift of knowing him for almost 60yrs. From the 1966 dirt track days at Hawkeye Downs to Hemelgarn victory at Indy in 1996. I all started with buying some old warn out parts for our stock car when he built his new Chevelle. We enjoyed watching his rise thru USAC in midgets and sprints. After college,in 1976 I went of work for the Chevrolet Zone Office in Des Moines. One of my first dealer contacts was Kunzman Chev Olds Pontiac...

My thoughts and prayers are with you family so very sorry for your loss. Many fond memories of Lee, on and off the race track. Dee Tattersall

God speed my friend. I had the privilege of working with him during our teams time on Gasoline Alley. Great person and caring man!

I learned so much from Lee, he was my team manager for my career at Hemelgarn Racing. Lee, I have missed seeing you for the last several years. A great racer, great man. You were there for Lisa and I during our loss many years ago. God Speed, you ran a good Race. Another checkered flag for you. Our sympathy to the family and the racing family at Hemelgarn Racing.
