Flo was a very classy lady!!! Flo was a great lab tech and a great mentor. My condolences to her family and friends.

Lena will be sorely missed at diva doo's, the beauty shop she patronized for many years! She was well very well recognized, loved, and appreciated. Not seeing her on a regular basis will not be the same..Condolences to her family..

Lena's Obituary

Lena Florence Smith was born January 20, 1938, in Gary, Indiana to Walter and Mildred Sutton. She affectionately known as “Flo” by all that loved her.

Lena graduated from Roosevelt High School.

She dedicated over 49 years of service as a Phlebotomist at Methodist Hospital Northlake.

Lena was a devoted mother and grandmother. She had a heart of gold that touched everyone she knew. Her life was full of compassion, strength and unwavering care for others. She left a legacy of love and kindness an to know her is to love her and everything about her.  

Lena gloriously lived 88 years transitioning on January 27, 2026, At Ignite Medical Resort, in Crown Point, Indiana.

She is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Andrew Lee Smith; parents, Walter and Mildred Sutton; sisters: Walteretta Brown and Mary McCloud; nephews: Donald Sutton Sr. and Donald Sutton Jr., Richard Nichols and Angelo Brown; granddaughter, Lydia Smith.

She leaves to cherish her memory to her daughter, Deborah Long; grandchildren: Que Goss, Kizzie Goss; great-granddaughters Kizzie Thigpen, Nazlra Shrrod; grandson, Martell Coleman; great-great-children, Nylanna Sherrod, Miguel Byrd Zamir Byrd; nephews: Christopher Brown and Desmond Sutton and many others family members and friends that all brought her Immense joy.
