Leo Wesley Campbell, Jr. age 70 of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on June 13, 2025, at Royal C. Johnson Veterans' Memorial Hospital at the Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls, SD.
Leo was born on November 15, 1954, in Sioux Falls, SD. He was the son of Carol Christine (Odegaard) Campbell and Leo Wesley Campbell Sr. Leo grew up in Sioux Falls where he received his education and was a graduate from the University of South Dakota with a bachelor's degree.
Leo married Lynne Bohlman on January 14, 1972. They shared 15 years of marriage and raised two boys, Aaron Leo and Aaric Leo. Shortly after their marriage Leo joined the United States Marine Corps. Leo was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in Thailand. He spent the last years of his service in the Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
Leo was joined in marriage to Laura Lee on June 20, 1992. They were married for 27 years and lived in Spearfish, SD before parting.
Leo was employed by the Department of Human Services for many years in Sioux Falls, Brookings and Wyoming. In later years, he owned his own business and was a successful contractor. Leo was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spearfish, SD from 1996 – 2019 and volunteered on many occasions.
Leo loved the outdoors. His favorite activities were hiking, camping, hunting and fishing. Leo enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His family and friends will remember him for his sense of humor and charismatic personality.
Leo is survived by his former wife, Lynne of Tarpon Springs, FL and their sons, Aaron Leo of Brookings, SD, and Aaric Leo and his spouse Brandi of Sioux Falls. Grandchildren; Alec and his girlfriend Ali of Sioux Falls, SD, Kegan and his spouse Jacey of Freeman, SD and Kiera of Sanford, FL., Great-grandchildren; Jayce, Isaiah, Kycen and Presley. Siblings; Margo of Sioux Falls, Craig of Sioux Falls, Tammi of Burnsville, MN, Tracy of Sioux Falls and Wade of Redfield, SD; Former wife, Laura Lee Campbell of Spearfish, SD. Lifelong friend, Mike and special friend, Shelli; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, and his grandson Tanner Lovaas.
Services will be held at the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery at 11 a.m. on June 24, 2025. Reception to follow at the Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, SD. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Toys for Tots or any favorite charity.
