Not sure what to say?

Leo was my Mom´s cousin and Godson. She was always so proud to be his Godmother. She had so many nice things to say about him! I certainly could understand why. He was a good man and always had a great smile and loved to brag about his family which is a wonderful way to remember someone. My deepest condolences to his wife, Janet and his daughter, Heather.

Sorry to read this. Leo was a fellow parishioner at Our Lady of Ransom years back. My condolences to the family. May he rest in peace.

LEO F. McINERNEY

JULY 28, 1940 - JUNE 26, 2025

Leo F. McInerney, CPA, whose Tax and Accounting practice served clients in Northeast Philadelphia for nearly 50 years, died on June 26, 2025.

Beloved husband of Janet (nee Schroeder), loving father of Heather (the late Timothy Jr.) Foor.  Dear brother of the late John (the late Patricia), Joseph (the late Dorothy) and Regina ‘Jean’ (the late Joseph) Quinn and brother-in-law of Karen Slimm (nee Schroeder).Leo was born and raised in the Oxford Circle neighborhood of Philadelphia and graduated from St. Martin of Tours Parish school.  He admired his three older siblings, two of whom left to fight in WWII when he was a toddler.  Leo was a proud, young uncle who enjoyed watching his nieces and nephews grow.

As a teen, Leo spent countless hours playing basketball outdoors at Houseman Playground.  He was an avid fan of Big 5 Basketball at the Palestra.  He played basketball for two years at Father Judge High School and graduated in 1959.

After graduation, Leo worked several full-time positions in Center City, landing at Smith Kline and French Laboratories where he met Janet, his beloved wife of 55 years.  He pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting in the evening division of La Salle College, graduating in 1968.

With a few years of public accounting experience, Leo launched his sole practitioner firm which provided accounting, audit and tax services.  Leo was enterprising as he balanced his new firm, new house and new baby, all while earning an MBA in the evening division at La Salle University in 1983.

He was an active parishioner at Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church until it closed in 2019.  Leo served on the Pastoral Council, Finance Committee and as a Eucharistic Minister.  He also coached his daughter’s basketball team at the Parish school and pursued the elusive winning season for 8 years.

Leo and Janet were season ticket holders at the Walnut Street Theater, cheered on the Phillies on TV nightly and watched all the British comedies and murder mysteries on WHYY.  When Leo retired, he had more time to quench his insatiable interest in history, especially WW I and WW II.   Also, Leo completely replaced Income Tax Madness with Mens’ and Womens’ Basketball March Madness.

Leo will be missed by his immediate family, his nieces and nephews and his friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Wednesday, July 2, 2025, 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at Resurrection of Out Lord Church, 2000 Shelmire Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19152.  Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 A.M.  Interment Resurrection Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Leo’s memory to Father Judge High School, 3301 Solly Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19136
