Condolences to the Boyd family. My late husband, Herman, and Lee were great friends, as well as cousins. Lee's generosity and love of life were shared with all who were blessed to know him. May the memories you made together sustain you and bring a smile to your hearts in the days ahead.

The Legendary Leonard T. Boyd1949 - 2026
Leonard Terrell Boyd, affectionately known as “Daddy,” “Uncle Polly,” “Pops,” and “The Legendary,” was born on September 26, 1949, in Blountstown to the late Alice Marie Swails and Reverend Henry Waymon Boyd, Sr.
At an early age, Leonard confessed the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior and became a devoted member of St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church, where he faithfully served until his transition. His love for God and commitment to his church family were evident in both word and deed. If there was a need, Leonard was there—ready to fix it, fund it, or find someone who could.
Leonard was a proud graduate of Mayhaw High School, Class of 1967, and continued his education at Chipola Junior College. In 1969, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served honorably and with distinction. His dedication to duty earned him several commendations, including the Vietnam Service Medal, Sharpshooter Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. His unwavering commitment to service later led him to become a self-sufficient disabled veteran and a trusted advocate for others.
After his honorable discharge from the military, Leonard live in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida where he worked as an Electrical Operations Technician with Bellsouth Telephone Company. He also became an associate of James C. Boyd Funeral Home where his fascination with funeral service began. His love for travel led him to become a coach operator with Gray Line Tour Bus Company before he returned home to North Florida.
In 1982, Leonard’s life was forever changed on September 20th when he received his proudest and most cherished title—“Daddy”—to his one and only child, Lynette Nicole Boyd. Lynette was his pride and joy. He adored her, nurtured her, and spoiled her beyond measure. If you knew Leonard, you knew there was nothing and no one he loved more than his beloved “Nette Nette.”
Motivated by fatherhood and a desire to provide, Leonard enrolled at Lively Technical College, earning certifications in Plumbing, HVAC, and Electrical trades. His excellence secured him a place on the competition squad that toured Florida, Georgia, and Alabama.
Leonard later became a proud member of the Florida A&M University “FAMULY” as a Physical Plant HVAC Technician, ensuring comfort for students and faculty year-round. When his daughter enrolled at FAMU DRS, Leonard made certain he was reassigned there to remain close to her—an enduring testament to his devotion as a father.
A true handyman and lifelong learner, Leonard worked part-time at Home Depot in the plumbing department, eventually expanding his expertise throughout the store. There was truly nothing he could not repair, assemble, or create.
Leonard’s dedication to his fellow veterans led him to serve as VFW Post Commander in Tallahassee. Passionately utilizing his knowledge of veterans affairs, Leonard helped veterans navigate VA benefits and life’s challenges. He was widely regarded as a dependable ally and advocate to disabled veterans.
In his leisure time, Leonard found joy in fishing, crabbing, and hunting. At “Fort Boyd", he cultivated a variety of fruit trees, generously sharing their harvest with friends, family, and neighbors. His hands were gifted, his heart generous, and his spirit unforgettable.
Leonard lived boldly and without regret. Outgoing and charismatic, he could command any room he entered. A man of integrity and strength, he shared wisdom freely and told stories that left listeners in stitches. He deeply cherished his family and often spoke with admiration of his father, Waymon, Sr., and his favorite big brother and best friend, Waymon, Jr. Late-night fishing trips and heartfelt conversations were among his most treasured memories. He intentionally nurtured strong family bonds, ensuring his daughter built close relationships with her uncle, aunt Lillie, Darell, and Monica.
Leonard lived life his own way—anchored in faith, family, and community. His values were on full display whether at church, at work, serving veterans, or relaxing at “Fort Boyd".
On Super Bowl Sunday, February 8, 2026, Leonard received his VIP ticket from the golden box office and answered the Master’s call, packing light—carrying only his soul—as he made his final journey from his beloved “Fort Boyd” to his heavenly home.
Those left to cherish his unforgettable memories and enduring love include: his devoted daughter, Lynette Nicole Boyd; his sister, Alice Boyd; brothers, Edgar “Jerry” (Florence) Boyd and Wayne “Flynn” (Catherine) Boyd; sister-in-love, Lillie J. Boyd; a special nephew and neice, Lt. Col. Arthur (Keisha) Gaines, III and Monica (Shawn, Sr.) Edwards; and a host of other loving relatives, friends, fellow veterans, and church family.
“Daddy.” “Uncle Polly.” “Pops.” “Commander.”He truly earned every title among his friends and family.
The Legendary Leonard T. Boyd.
