Life Reflections

If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.  Romans 14:8

Levern Graham, Jr. was born on Monday, September 4, 1944 to the late Rev. L.C. “Pete” Graham Sr. and Burlena Graham. Levern, affectionately known by his loved ones as  “LC” and “Snack” was called home by the Heavenly Father to take his eternal rest on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at his residence in Lake City, South Carolina. “LC” was an amazing father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who truly never met a stranger. At an early age, “LC”  accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and became a member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church (NJMBC). “LC” passionately believed in God and developed a deeply spiritual relationship with the Father. “LC” adored his church family and community and served in many auxiliaries and offices at his church, including Trustee and President of NJMBC Male Chorus until his health declined. Three of his favorite songs he loved to sing at church were “Sending Up My Timber,” “Long as I Got Jesus,” and “Can You Feel God Moving.” “LC” was an incredibly kind and humble man of God who brought joy, love, and laughter to his family, friends, and community. “LC” was the most debonaire gentleman on this side of heaven, having an excellent sense of style and always a fragrant aroma.

“LC” received a certificate from Olanta Training School and was a 1964 graduate of Carver High School, holding the title of “Best Dressed” and “Best Looking” in his high school senior class.  “LC” worked as a bus driver during his high school years. Always on the move, “LC” later relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, where he was an employee of General Motors. After returning to South Carolina, he worked as a Security Guard for Magnolia Mall and later with the Disabilities and Special Needs Board until suffering an injury. In 1980, “LC” began a faithful career with Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home and later with Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home after the business expanded to Lake City, South Carolina. “LC” was a dedicated employee at Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home for thirty-five years until his health declined in 2015. In addition to his long career in funeral services, “LC” served as a certified notary public.

In addition to his parents, LC” was preceded in death by a sister, Delores Cockfield; a brother, Orell Graham; two nephews, Jaroname Dyshon Cockfield and Howard Jevante Graham; three brothers-in-law, Steve McKenzie, Pastor Tommy Simpson, and Ennis McFadden Sr.; and a beloved grandson, Kevin Booker.

Those left behind to cherish his precious memories are, his children: Sharon Surles of Baltimore, MD, Sheila Booker of Baltimore, MD, Sherrlyn (Travis) McFadden, FNP-C of Florence, SC, and Sharvis (Adrienne) Graham of Lake City, SC; a stepson, Benji Davis; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Shannon (Michael) Adams of Columbia, SC; one brother, Howard (Drew) Graham of Olanta, SC; four sisters: Lillian Simpson of Yemassee, SC, Rudell McKenzie of Olanta, SC, Debra McFadden of Florence, SC and Bernell Singletary of Fair River, MA; four special sisters: Jerlene Cameron of Lake City, SC; Lata Ree Byrd of Owings Mills, MD, Lossie McClam of Coward, SC and Willie Mae Mills of Olanta, SC; a brother-in-law, Carel Cockfield of Olanta, SC; nineteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a goddaughter, Felicia McClam; a special sister, Rosa Nell McFadden of Fort Lauderdale, FL; two best friends, Tommy Hickson and Roy Lee McFadden; caretakers that he adored, Kaysandra Barr, Theresa Burgess, Sheila Burgess, and Nevi Burgess all of Quality Life Home Care Agency; a special friend, Elloree McFadden; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
