Karmen Tracy, age 61, passed away on March 11, 2026, in Conroe, Texas, after a long and courageous battle with heart complications. She is now at peace with the Lord.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, March 19 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Burkburnett, followed by a graveside tribute at Burkburnett Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest in her beloved hometown.
Karmen was born in Sumter, South Carolina, and later grew up in Burkburnett, Texas, a place that always remained close to her heart. Life took her from her home town across the country faithfully and dutifully following her husband Chris and his aviation career, where she foraged friendships and touched countless lives and hearts of others along the way.
Karmen had a special gift for connecting with others. She had a way of making people feel welcome wherever she went, forming friendships that often lasted a lifetime. While her husband Chris often says he may have been the pilot, Karmen was the heart that made every place feel like home.
Karmen was the shining star of her family, even though she never sought the spotlight. She was the motivation and encouragement behind so many of life’s accomplishments and adventures. Her belief in others inspired them to pursue their dreams.
Chris and Karmen shared 35 years of marriage filled with love, trust, and adventure. They did everything together, from traveling and exploring new places to simply sharing everyday moments side by side.
Karmen also opened her heart and home to several exchange students from Europe over the years, welcoming them as daughters and helping guide them as they built their lives in the United States.
Even during her long health battle, Karmen faced every challenge with courage, grace, and unwavering faith. Her strength inspired everyone who walked beside her through those difficult months.
Those who knew Karmen often described her as the “go” behind the go-go — the quiet encouragement and energy behind every new adventure, even when it meant leaving her beloved Burkburnett and beginning a new chapter somewhere else.
Karmen loved people deeply and had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. Her kindness, warmth, and adventurous spirit will continue to live on in the many lives she touched.
She was deeply loved, and she loved others just as deeply. She will be remembered as the heart behind many adventures, the light within her family, and a friend who made every place feel like home.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel P. Middlebrooks of Wichita Falls, Texas; and her grandparents, John C. Middlebrooks Sr., Dora Belle Renfro, Earnest Brock, and Edna Ponder Brock, along with many extended family members who held a special place in her heart.
Karmen is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Chris Tracy of Pinehurst, Texas; her daughters, Kristen Tracy of Badajoz, Spain, and Emily Tracy of Montgomery, and Emily’s fiancé, Parker Williamson; her beloved granddaughter, Hazel Tracy; her father, John Middlebrooks of Wichita Falls; her sister, Fonde Hrazdil and her husband, Greg, of Burkburnett; and many beloved cousins, aunts, and uncles, including cousins Sherri Wylie and Myron Taylor of Carrollton, Georgia, who were like a sister and brother to her.
She is also lovingly remembered by the international daughters she welcomed into her home and heart — Katherina, Arianna, Victoria, and Sanna — and by her cherished dog, Jenny.
Karmen loved people deeply, and her family knows she would be smiling to see everyone gathered together sharing memories and stories.
The family is deeply grateful for the prayers, love, and support shown by so many during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to a local animal shelter or rescue organization in honor of Karmen’s deep love and compassion for dogs.
