Lorene was born on April 14, 1935, in Linden, Texas, Cass County, to Thomas Stalcup Jaynes and Mary John Jaynes Duncan. She was one of eight children and grew up surrounded by a close-knit family. She was preceded in death by her siblings: sisters Jo Ella Story, Frieda Kay Story, Bobbie Mae Berryman ; and brothers Orval Allen Jaynes, William Thomas Jaynes, and Lloyd O’Neal Jaynes. Mable Ruth Ball of Lone Star, Tx is her only surviving sibling.She had 4 grandchildren, Loren Hairgrove, Ashley Upton, Amy Wilson and Amanda Smith. She had 2 great grandchildren, Logan Wilson and Laney Wilson. She was expecting another great grandson in June.She attended Bear Creek County School through the eighth grade, then continued her education at Avinger High School, where she graduated in 1953.In 1952, during the summer following her eleventh-grade year, Lorene married the love of her life, AJ Morris, from the Smyrna community just north of Harleton, Texas. Their marriage marked the beginning of a life built on dedication, service, and family.In 1954, Lorene gave birth to her first son, Jeffry Dean Morris, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, while AJ served in the United States Army. She proudly supported her husband during his military service, moving with him as needed. After AJ completed his Army service in 1956, the family returned to Marshall, Texas.Lorene began her nursing career at Marshall Memorial Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Through determination and perseverance, she earned her Registered Nurse degree from Kilgore Junior College in Kilgore, Texas, where she was a member of the very first graduating class of the Kilgore College Nursing Program.In 1960, she welcomed her second son, Larry Joe Morris. In 1966, she gave birth to Randall Keith Morris, who was stillborn and lovingly remembered always.Lorene dedicated 44 years of faithful service to Marshall Memorial Hospital, spending her entire nursing career in Labor and Delivery. She delivered—or helped deliver—countless babies in the community, including one of her own grandchildren, leaving a lasting legacy of care, compassion, and professionalism.After retiring, Lorene fully embraced life, traveling throughout the United States and Canada with her siblings. She attended Harleton Baptist Church where she participated in Silver Strands. She found joy in gardening, growing flowers, bird watching, and most of all, watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in sports. She cherished these years deeply.In 2022, Lorene suffered a stroke that took away the mobility she had left. With grace and acceptance, she chose to reside at Havencare Nursing Home in Longview, Texas, where she made many close friendships with both patients and staff. She especially loved her visits with Harvey and Martha Fox, Bear and Dody, and her sweet sister and brother-in-law Mable and Buzzy Ball. She loved reading her bible and watching her great grandchildren play sports on her iPad. She remained at Havencare until she was welcomed into her Heavenly Father’s arms, exactly 70 years to the day of her mother’s passing on February 6, 1956.Lorene J. Morris will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, compassionate nurse, and proud grandmother and great-grandmother. Her life of service, strength, and love touched generations and will never be forgotten.In lieu of flowers, she requested that donations be made to Harleton Elementary School library or St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 14, 2026, in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Smyrna Cemetery in Harleton. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel.
