Not sure what to say?

I’m so saddened to hear of Lori’s passing. May your memories provide comfort in the days to come. I have many fond memories of the Simington kids and living across the street from them for years.

I am heartbroken over the loss of Lori. She was a loving kind soul with a bright spirit that touched everyone around her, from the cherished memories of our childhood to the beautiful person she became. Her big, beautiful eyes reflected the warmth and love she carried into her heart. I pray that God brings her family, comfort and strength during this difficult time. Lori Ann Kunzman, daughter of Larry and Suzanne (Burns) Simington, was born June 15, 1969 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Her childhood was spent in Ruthven, Iowa where she also received her education, graduating from Ruthven High School in 1987. Lori was later blessed in life with two daughters, Hanna and Emily. She was very proud of her girls and loved them unconditionally.

Lori devoted her life to being a caregiver for the elderly, individuals with disabilities and elementary age children. Lori started her calling working in a nursing home and later on Riverview Terrace Assisted Living in Spencer, Iowa. After some time Lori chose a new path, to care for those in their own home working with Stay In Home Care. Around this time she was given the opportunity to join Hope Haven. She loved her job and developed great friendships and long lasting relationships with her clients and their families. Recently she had become a paraeducator at Johnson Elementary School in Spencer. Her colleagues and kids held a special place in her heart and meant a lot to her.

Lori was a kind, caring, selfless being, who had a beautiful soul inside and out and a heart of gold. Lori loved her home, her moments of solitude, socializing with her friends and family over a cup of coffee, and her greatest love of all was spending time with her grandchildren. Her smile would light up a room when she’d see them, they meant the world to her and brought her so much joy and happiness.

Lori passed away Saturday, March 8, 2025 surrounded by her loved ones at her

sister’s home in Spencer, Iowa at the age of 55 after a courageous battle with colon cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Larry and Suzanne.

She is survived by her daughters, Hanna Smith and her husband, Scott of Omaha, Nebraska and Emily Barnish and her husband, Jaremy of Mason City, Iowa; three grandchildren, Jett Smith, Ava Barnish and Layla Barnish; a brother, Bob Simington of Ruthven, Iowa; two sisters, Robin Hanson and her husband, Rod of Spencer, Iowa and Becky Moore and her husband, John of Green River, Wyoming; as well as many other relatives and friends.Arrangements by Martin-Mattice Funeral Home
