Louis's Obituary

Louis Gilbert Muñoz, beloved husband, dad, and grandpa, born on September 20, 1933, in San Antonio, Texas, went to be with the Lord on December 9, 2025, at the age of 92. He is preceded in death by his wife Pauline Reyes Muñoz, married for 62 years; son, Louis Henry Muñoz; and numerous brothers and sisters.

He is survived by daughter, Mary Roseann Zaragoza, and husband George Michael Zaragoza; daughter, Tricia Ann Muñoz (Roberto Cruz); son, Anthony Gilbert Muñoz, and wife Cathy Thompson Muñoz; daughter-in-law, Maria Angelica Muñoz (Louis Henry Muñoz); sisters, Angie Muñoz Garza and Lilli Muñoz Poulson and brother, Joe Muñoz (Patricia); grandchildren, Priscilla Ann Muñoz-Garza, and husband Isaac Garza, Gregory George Zaragoza, Jenna Elizabeth Zaragoza (Austin Gomez); and numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.

Louis proudly served his country as a Navy machinist aboard the USS Iowa (BB-61) during the Korean War, earning several merit medals for his dedication and skill. After the Navy, he entered the workforce as a proud employee at Kelly AFB in the Fighter Propulsion Management Division. After nearly 42 years of distinguished civil service at Kelly, Louis spent a short time at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex before returning home. He spent several years with Pratt & Whitney before retiring permanently. His life of service and work took him across the U.S. and numerous countries around the world.

A devout Catholic, Louis attended Mass every weekend, as well as daily services and holy days of obligation at his lifelong parish, St. Henry’s Catholic Church. He found solace praying the rosary daily.  His family will forever cherish and miss his devotion and faith to his Almighty God.Louis was a kind soul to those who knew him and never hesitated to lend a helping hand. He never lost his sense of humor or his commitment to protect and provide for his loving family. His presence in our lives was a blessing, and he will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 26, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM with the recitation of the rosary at 7:00 PM. Procession will depart Hillcrest Funeral Home on Monday, December 29, at 9:30 AM for a 10:00 AM Mass at St. Henry’s Catholic Church.

Family and friends will meet on Tuesday, December 30 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery for a 1:45 PM committal service. The family will honor his wish for cremation.
