Lowell Thomas “Tom” Sauerbry, 71, of Cedar Rapids, died at home on May 3, 2023 surrounded by family. A Celebration of Life will be 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, May 13, 2023 in the Monarch Room at Teahen Funeral Home.
Tom is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Karen; sons, Michael (Amanda) Sauerbry of Marion and Tim (Katelyn) Sauerbry of Savage, MN; grandchildren, Braelyn, Deryck, Emmry, William and Henry; brothers, Al (Tina) Sauerbry of Cedar Rapids and Gene (Lisa) Sauerbry of Hereford, AZ; sister, Patricia (Paul) Haring of St. George, UT; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Tom was born on January 1, 1952 in Clinton, son of Harold and Katherine (Otterbeck) Sauerbry. He graduated from Washington High School in 1970. Tom joined the Navy in 1971 during the Vietnam War and served until 1977. On May 11, 1993, Tom married Karen Mohler in Cedar Rapids. He worked as a meat cutter for many years.
Tom was a true outdoorsman; he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed bowhunting. He loved family time, especially “Tom Tuesday” with Al, and being with his grandchildren. Tom will be deeply missed.
