LUCY's Obituary

Lucy C. Orozco

October 31, 1939 – December 26, 2025

Our beloved mother, Lucy C. Orozco, peacefully passed away at home on December 26, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Lucy was born Maria De La Luz Carrillo in San Juan del Río, Durango, Mexico. She and her mother later moved to Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico, and eventually to Tucson, Arizona, where Lucy attended Tucson High School.

Lucy married Jose Guadalupe Orozco on September 2, 1961, at Saint Ambrose Church in Tucson, Arizona. The couple moved to El Paso, Texas, returned to Tucson, and eventually settled in Douglas, Arizona, where they raised their three children: Willy, Yvonne, and Denise.

Lucy worked alongside her husband, Joe, managing Karl’s Shoe Store in downtown Douglas. She later worked at Billy the Kid Shirt Factory as a supervisor, where she formed many lifelong friendships. Lucy remained in Douglas for several years after Joe’s passing in April 2001. In 2020, she moved to Tucson to be closer to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Lucy was admired for her strong work ethic, inner strength, kindness, and politeness toward everyone she met. She was very active and especially enjoyed gardening and cooking—activities she lovingly shared with family and friends. Above all, Lucy cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren. A devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and friend, she will be deeply missed but will forever remain in our hearts.

Lucy is survived by her three children: Willy Orozco (Maria), Yvonne Velasco (Rick), and Denise Gomez (Armando); seven grandchildren: JB Orozco (Alisha), Jeremy Orozco, Isela Orozco-Zepeda (Matthew), Gabriela Lopez (David), Armando Gomez Jr., Nicolas Velasco, and Christopher Velasco; and six great-grandchildren: Riley Stevenson, Jacob Orozco, Adrian Orozco, Hunter Orozco, Esme Gomez, and Arya Zepeda.

Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Joe G. Orozco; her mother, Herminia Gonzalez Duran; her father, Ambrosio Carrillo; her brother, Guillermo Carrillo; her son-in-law, Armando Gomez; and her mother-in-law, Bertha Arellano.

A Rosary will be held at 10:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 928 C Avenue, Douglas, Arizona 85607.

Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
