Lucy Ann Swanson, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, in Manistee, Michigan, surrounded by her loving family. She was 82.Born in Muskegon, Michigan, on June 28, 1943, Lucy was the daughter of the late Howard and the late Rosa (Steinberg) Barhitte. She was one of four siblings: the late Jack Barhitte, Christine Barhitte, and the late Mary (Barhitte) Fox.Lucy married the love of her life, the late Frederick Swanson, in March of 1963. Together, they built a life in Muskegon and raised two children, the late Robert Swanson and Anna (Swanson) DeRooy. After retiring, Lucy and Fred moved to their cherished northern cottage home in Honor, where they enjoyed a slower pace of life surrounded by nature and family.Throughout her life, Lucy worked in a variety of fields, including dental hygiene, as an associate at Sears, and in the Muskegon Public School System’s Hot Lunch Program. She was a lifetime member of the Michigan VFW and an active supporter of veterans as a member of Chapter 1 of the Rolling Thunder.Lucy had a vibrant spirit and many passions — from knitting and bingo to hiking, kayaking, camping, and reading. But her greatest joy was time spent with her family. She was a proud grandmother to Bradford Medacco, Corey Swanson, and Nyssa (Swanson) Watkins, and a beloved great-grandmother to many great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her endless pride and happiness.A Celebration of Life will be held on November 15th, 2025, with more details to follow. Instead of flowers, donations may be made in Lucy’s memory to the American Heart Association.Lucy will be remembered for her generous heart, unwavering love, and the joy she brought to those around her.
