Luella's Obituary

Luella A. Bannwart (nee Gruenke), 96, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Jan. 11, 2018, at Rittenhouse Senior Living surrounded by her family.

 With her passing she joins her husband, Victor Bannwart, parents Otto and Augusta (Schroeder) Gruenke and siblings Lawrence Gruenke, Renetta Fischer and Vera Gruenke.

 Luella was born Oct. 6, 1921, in Michigan City. She married Victor on Sept. 19, 1953, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Michigan City.

 Luella is survived by her children Stephen (Loretta) Bannwart of Michigan City, Melanie (David) Gray of Indianapolis, Vickie (Daniel) LeDuc of Annapolis, Maryland, and Susan Bannwart-Mairo of Schaumburg, Illinois; grandchildren Tanya (Keven), Mike and Matt (Nikki) Bannwart, Andrew and Anna LeDuc, Mikhail and Natasha Mairo; great-grandchildren Lucas and Kinsley Bannwart, niece Diane Fischer and nephews Larry and Leslie Gruenke.

 Luella was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she had been active in the Luther League and choir. She graduated from Elston High School in 1939. Luella was a former Cub Scout and 4-H leader, member of the Cass Township Evening Bells, LaPorte County Homemakers and Farm Bureau and a volunteer with the LaPorte County Mental Health Association.

 Luella, along with her husband Victor, travelled extensively throughout the world often bringing along their children and grandchildren.

 Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 13, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 818 Franklin St., followed immediately by a funeral service with Pastor Mark Reshan officiating. Entombment will be at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso, Indiana, at 1:30 pm.

 In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or School or to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home at 613 Washington St. Michigan City, IN.
