Luis Salinas Mireles

1943 – 2025

Luis Salinas Mireles, age 82, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas.

Born in Lockhart, Texas, Luis was the beloved son of the late Lorenzo P. Mireles and Angelita Salinas. He proudly served his country when he was drafted during the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of SP4. After his service, he went on to dedicate many years of his life to helping fellow veterans through his work with the Department of Veterans Affairs, before retiring with honor.

Luis was a man of quiet strength, faith, and deep commitment to family. He was married to the late Carmen Mireles for 44 years, and together they built a home filled with love, resilience, and cherished memories.

He is survived by his children, Stepson Jason Rangel (Liza), and Angie Perez (Edmund); his grandchildren: Ariana Perez, Alicia Perez, Ava Perez, Austin Rangel, and Ariel Rangel; and his sisters Lydia S. Mireles and Rosemary M. Cordoba (Mike). He was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter Alyssa Perez, as well as his siblings: Antonio S. Mireles, Lorenzo S. Mireles (Jane), Felipe S. Mireles (Carolina), Angelita S. Mireles, Micaela M. Guzman (James), and Pauline M. Martinez (Alfredo).

Luis’s life will be honored with a viewing and Rosary on Monday, September 29, 2025, at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1281 Bandera Road, San Antonio, Texas 78228, beginning at 6:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Luke Catholic Church, 4603 Manitou, San Antonio, Texas 78228, with interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the friends and relatives who visited in recent months—it meant a great deal to Luis and to those closest to him. Special thanks also go to the dedicated staff of the VA Hospital, Methodist Hospital, the Sonterra Rehabilitation Center, and the Frank Tejeda Veterans Home for their compassionate care and support during his final days.

Luis will be remembered for his steady presence, quiet humor, and deep love for his family and country. He leaves behind a legacy of dignity, duty, and devotion.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Rosary.

Procession will depart Hillcrest on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at 9:00 AM for a 9:30 AM Mass at St. Luke's Catholic church. Burial to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery for an 11:30 AM committal service. Shelter #3.
